I recently switched from a PVR500 to a HDHR and I noticed that commercial flagging is not as precise.

I also see some instances where a commercial will be flagged within the show itself.

I get that too...it's annoying. But I just noticed, and maybe it was the specific show, but it seems to be worse during prime time, than it is on shows recorded outside prime time.

For me comm detection seems show specific in it's precision. Example: 24 is perfect, Lost also very good. Scrubs and now Chuck, bad. Scrubs & Chuck both go to black during episodes. Also bad is Arrested Development as they go white just before commercials.

Ya, Chuck's pretty horrible, heroes is not quite that bad. But, it's really all the prime time shows that have been giving issues. That, and movies, but they're not as bad...they're close enough.

I still haven't had a chance to test the different commflagging options on a file. Hopefully I can find something that's reliable.

The most annoying though, is cutting to commercial a minute early...then cutting back in the middle of commercials...GAH! At least a false flag during the show, I can just hit the back button, and watch it...not that annoying.

Cecil,
Are you using "all available methods" or some subset of those? Do you have "strict commercial detection" checked? And lastly are you comflagging HD or analog stuff?
Thanks!
