I havent been able to find someone with my exact problem on the forums, but if you can, please post the threads....

Anyways, I've had my Mythbox (R5F1) running using composite out to a 27" CRT TV for about 5 months no with no problems (except of course, the renegade log file that filled my root volume), and as of Friday, I finally upgraded to a beautiful 42" Philips 1080p LCD TV. I only have a PVR-150 in my machine (which I am content with for now since my only HD signal I have is Over-the-air and my 360/HD-DVD player), but as you can expect, the signal from the PVR-150 looks terrible. The entire mythbox is currently outputting 480i over component. I have tried to bump the resolution up to 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p by editing the xorg.conf file, but nothing works properly. Anything progressive scan will cause the entire machine to go black and lock up while starting X. If I set the resolution to 1080i, X and Mythfrontend starts up fine, but when I start Live TV, it locks the entire machine, goes black, and you hear 1 second sound clips every 20 seconds or so. All I added to the xorg.conf file was the line 'option "TVSTANDARD" "HD480i' or something along those lines (got that from an earlier forum). Any other number besides 480 causes problems. Anyone got an idea? I can post any files you need.

You might try adding (“nvidia-auto-select�) including the quotes to your xorg file before the other modes. It will pick the 'best' modeline.

But since I am using TV Out, I read earlier that TV Out ignores modelines. I will try it anyways (since what will it hurt?) but is this true?

I added the "nvidia-auto-select" line before each mode and it seemed to fix the resolution problem, but now everything has a blue tint to it..any other ideas?

As far as I know you only need to tweak the Depth 24 Mode.



As for the blue tint, I don't know. Have you tried to remove the Option that you added? I don't know if that is a problem, but it's easy enough to # out that line and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to see if it helps.



Also search blue tint and a couple threads will pop that might help.

Right now, I have just the "nvidia-auto-select" option in the 24 bit color section, and I currently have Option "TVSTANDARD " "HD480i" set. It DOES get rid of the blue tint, but it also overrides the resolution it seems and bumps it back down to 640x480, thus defeating the purpose of editing the xorg.conf file anyways. Everything works fine, but the resolution is still terrible. If I remove the HD480i option, it goes back to a blue tint and the resolution goes back to 1024x768. I can't seem to get both to work at the same time. Pretty much everyone who was having a problem with the blue tint ended their thread with someone saying set 'Option "TVSTANDARD" "HD480i" ' and that was that.

It seems from a few other posts that this is a nvidia driver issue. I wonder if upgrading the driver might help? Maybe upgrading to R5F27 which uses newer nvidia drivers?

Since your only recording SD, maybe another output to the TV would work better for the moment?

Maybe someone else will have other ideas.

That is very true and technically I could probably keep it at 480i, but the low resolution GUI just bugs me. There is no other connection I can use, so for now I guess I will just be content with component outputting 480i. Oh well.
