Saw this article and was wondering if anything like this could be done with Myth.

Seems the hardware is already in place. Shouldn't run into legal issues if the screening was limited to OTA recordings. Screening DVDs could be a problem for some...

... just wondering...

It appears FTA that every participant needs to own and have the DVD inserted in their machines and the "host" simply controls the pause, play, etc of everyone's machine, keeping them in sync over the net. It doesn't actually stream the video to everyone. So there shouldn't be any legal issues.

In Myth, everyone would need to have recorded the same show, or have the same DVD inserted, also. Myth would need an IM Chat feature added and some group remote control features and you're good to go.

Interesting, although it doesn't seem like something I would ever have a use for.

I have a feeling this would be a "build it and they will come" plug-in. Imagine Myth Star Wars fans watching a marathon or House or Grey's fans all getting together on a Holiday...

I see it like a 'channel' of 'feed' that you could subscribe to for 'show times'. Maybe even family's throughout the globe sharing a 'movie night' with chat and video cams. A Virtual Screening Room if you will. Imagine, everyone watching 'Scream' and actually jumping/screaming all at the same time...

With all that said, I don't know if I'd use it much either.

I could see it being used for film discussion. Watch a clip, then chat about it. Spent a Saturday doing just that oh so many years ago. Film was Casablanca.

How I would use this feature is when I'm (half) watching a show while I do other stuff around the house. Occasionally I have two tv's on in different rooms watching the same show which works fine with real live tv, but it would be even better if MythTV could be kept in sync in two locations.

I use tvout and feed it into an RF video modulator and mix it back in to my antenna coax system on an unused tv channel so I can watch mythtv on any, or all, tvs in the house.

I also have remote repeaters, like the Powermid Remote Extenders, next to each tv so I can control mythtv at each one. Right now I have one digital tuner and two analog tuners. When the analog broadcasts go away next year, I guess I'll need to get another digital tuner or two, to replace the analog ones, but my analog TVs will still work with the RF modulator and tvout.
