I've got TV watching working well with /dev/adsp chosen as the sound output device.

However, when watching an avi recorded to CD, the sound is not comping out of the digital port, and is instead routed to the analog port. I tried a few of the solutions posted around like:

-ao alsa:device=hw#0,1 -ac hwac3,

and a few others that correspond properly to my aplay -l (I'm running the chaintek AV-710).

Anybody know the solution?

Are you using xine for playback? You don't say what program you're using.

Simplest solution is to change playback device to Internal (note capitalised I).

Sorry- using mplayer for playback. Works great coming out of the analog port. I'll try Internal.

OK- internal works. Thanks, but why doesn't this work?

mplayer-resumer.pl -vo xv -zoom %s -ao alsa:device=hw=0.1 -ac hwac3,

where 0,1 is the digital out for my sound card. Oddly, it doesn't work from the command line on an mp3 either (although leaving the -ao off works fine out of the analog out).

OK- figured it out. I'll post the answer here in case anybody else runs into it, but I ultimately found the answer here:

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/DigitalOut

it ultimately ends up being:

mplayer-resumer.pl -fs -zoom -vo xv -ao alsa:device=plughw=0.1 %s

note that my digital card appears at 0.1 with aplay -l

(type aplay -l and see which [card.device] corresponds to iec958)
