I installed a mythtv frontend on my regular desktop computer today and everything went very smoothly to connect and view recordings and livetv as I had already setup Samba to use an Xbox frontend.
I thought it would be useful to use the desktop computer to queue jobs like xvid transcoding on my main combined frontend/backend box. Unfortunately when I go to the job options on the remote frontend, there is no transcode to xvid job. On my combined frontend/backend I have 2 normal options and 3 user options:
Begin Transcoding
Begin Commercial Flagging
Begin Encode for iPod
Begin Transcode to XviD
Begin Add commflag to cutlist
I created the "Begin Add commflag to cutlist" so that I had an easy way to generate cutlists in the menu. On my remote frontend, I only get the 2 normal optoions and 1 of my user options:
Begin Transcoding
Begin Commercial Flagging
Begin Add commflag to cutlist
Why don't the other 2 user jobs show up? Is it because the scripts are on a different machine? How can I make the frontend queue the jobs to be run on the backend? Thanks.

Update: I am still investigating this. I have gone to mythweb and am looking at the mythtv settings there. It does not show any information for User Job 1 and User Job 2. Maybe Knoppmyth has generated them in a non-standard way? I will copy the information I have for User Job 2, a.k.a. "Begin Transcode to XviD" to User Job 4 on the backend and see if that takes care of it. Can anyone else confirm whether Mythweb and remote frontends show their User Jobs 1 and 2? Should I report this as a bug?

Update 2: It works just how I want as long as the user jobs are 3 and 4. For some reason 1 & 2 are not available to a remote frontend or mythweb. Not really a problem for me, but it does seem odd. I also can't disable user jobs 1 & 2 on the combined frontend/backend, even when I uncheck them on the backend setup. Strange.
Anyway, as I said, my problem is solved by using jobs 3 & 4.

I have a similar problem on my front end. I only have the first two options of:
Begin Transcoding
Begin Commercial Flagging
the other ones are not available from my frontend. I tried the Begin Transcoding options, but it ends up failing with an error code of 247. I guess I'll have to do more research on this issue.

Cecil,
Are you saying that the frontend just queues it for his backend to run? So the problem is probably his backend and not frontend?
I know with "Transcode to Xvid" it queues it on the backend.
*Insert "that's what she said" joke here*

I'm saying what I'm saying. If there was another way to say what I'm saying, I'd have said it that way...
