Hello, I'm fairly new to this Linux stuff so I am sorry if I don't/can't provide the information needed but here we go...

My buddy set up a MythBox and has been using it for a long while now. I just got an HDTV so I figured now would be a good time for me to try it out.

My Specs:
Intel Socket 478 2.8ghz P4
Intel D865GLC
2GB RAM
NVidia 6200
Leadtek TV2000XP
200GB hard drive
1 CD and 1 DVD Drive
Version R5F27

Network Config:
Cheap SuperG Airlink101 AR430W
Mythtv is plugged in via LAN
2 Laptops using wireless with WPA2-Personal AES Encryption

When the Mythbox is running, it works fine, and so does my laptop. But if it is plugged into the router my girlfriends laptop loses its connection to the router and it says it is connected to an "unidentified network". If I go into the managment console of the router and reboot the router, she can connect again for a little while before it happens again. I have noticed if I unplug the MythBox from the router then reboot the router, but leave the MythBox unplugged that this doesnt happen. Is there a setting on the router or in the MythBox that I can change to keep this from happening?

Is the Myth box set to use DHCP? It probably should be. If you're hardcoding an IP address, it may be using one that the router has handed to your GF's laptop.

I didn't make any changes to the MythBox's IP config. In my router I have it set up to give my laptop a Static IP and everything else gets an IP via DHCP. Should I try to set the MythBox to a static IP?

See what IP the MythBox gets, and compare that to the static IP that the laptop gets?
If they are the same, then that's the problem.
This is just a "low hanging fruit" approach to troubleshooting....

Well I've got it all going now and my girlfriend's laptop has an IP of 192.168.1.102 and the MythBox has an IP of 192.168.1.103. I have two more devices, My laptop 192.168.1.101 and my Wii 192.168.1.105. All of these are set up Static now.

Making the Myth box static isn't a bad idea. You can usually do it in the router, so that it can still use DHCP.

Well so far after I gave every device a static I havn't had any problems. Although all of this is at home and I can only "see" devices through a remote connection to one of my computers. So I know I can ping everything but as far as connectivity goes, I can't be certain, but it looks as if the issue may have been resolved. I will post back if I continue to see issues.

I don't know about your router, but on mine addresses ending in 100 and above are in the dhcp range. If you want to use static IP numbers you should use ones below 100, otherwise when the router does go to hand out an IP it may start at 101 and duplicate your statically assigned one, causing problems. Check your help screens in the router it see what the dhcp range is, and stay away from it with your static IP number assignments.

my two cents worth...
Since my (Linksys) router assigns IP addresses in the range of 192.168.1.101 to 109, I start my statically assigned KM boxes at 192.168.1.111. (Why fight to automation for an IP address?)
If I were to assign a static address to a stand-alone netwrok printer.. I would start at 192.168.1.121
