I can't get dvd's to play in myth, when I go to the dvd playing program it plays the fbi warning and the disclaimer that any commentary is not the view of the company, then it quit and sends me back to the mythtv menu before it gets to the dvd menu.

any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also I am new to linux so all steps need to be stated explicity.

Thanks,
-Zack

KnoppMyth does not come with support for playing encrypted commercial DVD's due to legal restraints in the USA where KM is based. Because of the legal issues in the USA, this subject is taboo in the forums as well. My best advice would be to use google.

I'm confued as to the legal issues. All dvd drives come with power dvd, and windows media player plays them. Do they pay some kind of royalties for the right to play these dvds?

In a word "yes". The DVD Consortium (now known as "The DVD Forum") requires a hefty "membership" (licensing) fee and per player payment from it's members. http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml It's fundamentally an industry group aimed at maintaining an "open monopoly". Micro$oft has deep pockets and can afford to pay the fees to buy into the monopoly.
