I have a strange issue that I can't seem to find any information about... Occasionally MythTV will record programs and the resulting recording will look black with red and green... one of the only ways I can think to describe it is that it looks like a photo negative... maybe darker though... So that's the issue... my best guess is that it is most likely something wrong with my video capture card (ATI TV Wonder VE it's using bttv of course). I can't seem to replicate this, so it seems to just happen randomly and it does not seem to happen while watching Live TV. If you have any questions, feel free to ask

I don't think that's what he meant.

You ask for a "good" howto for LVM. Have you seen some, already, and don't like them or are you looking for a starting point?

sounds like the v4l2 bug. the newer kernels have this problem with software cards. It has been discussed on the forums here.

ok... I'll look into v4l2

sorry I can't help with LVM ;).

I may just go buy a PVR 250 =). And everyone seems to be saying that it's probably the best card I could get for the price ;). So how good is the quality with the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 Model 980?? I know it's a hardware encoder...

i switched to a pvr250 and LOVE IT. The only bad thing is that it suffers from the same thing every card suffers from.. de-interlace issues. But since everycard has that issue.. (thank you nvidia) its a GREAT card.. My New 250 will only relibly capture at 720x480 because of a (random) firmware bug conflict with the 1.9 ivtv drivers.. some of the new ones suffer from this.. but at 720x480 NEVER had a problem. RECOMEND highly!

Actually, I'd say that it's not suffering from deinterlace issues, but that it's grabbing the video as it's supposed to -- as interlaced video -- because unless you're receiving a HDTV signal, your video is interlaced. The 250 makes nice interlaced MPEG2 files, ready for DVD burning.

Now, playback of that interlaced signal, yes, I would agree that "suffer" is the right modifier in that example. But since the 250 doesn't do playback, that's a video card issue.

Sorry for the drift but interlacing issues are one of the few things I actually feel qualified to discuss.

ahh, well, XSecrets was right, that does sound like what the problem is... but unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's a fix yet... I may just buy a PVR250 ;).

well I think at this point about the only fix is to move to the pchdtv kernel which does not have v4l2 patched in.

Just want to post a link to the fix for this problem for posterity. The fix is in thread http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=19338.
