I have a WinTV PVR-250 which came with an HP computer and it does not have an "AUDIO OUT" jack, therefore I cannot run a cable to the "AUDIO IN" of my sound card, is there any way I could listen to live TV or to my recordings if I do not have that cable???

:?

I think you're confused.

The PVR-250 doesn't need an audio output jack because the recorded sound is encoded in the MPEG-2 stream. (This also goes for the various 150s and the 500.)

It has input jacks to provide the audio for non-tuner sources, but it's only "output" is the captured data stream read via the PCI bus.

The PVR-350 has output jacks because it's also meant as an analog output device to drive a TV, but that's a different piece of equipment.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am not confused, I just was not aware of what you just explained. If that is the case what do I have to do to listen to the sound? All I see is the image but no sound. Is there a special configuration that I need to follow?

You shouldn't have to do anything special. What soundcard are you using? Do you get sound in other areas of Myth (Listen to Music, Watch Videos, etc.)?

You're not providing enough information to get a good answer.

- Are you recording from the tuner, or from either the composite or s-video input?

- Have you checked the audio settings in the recording profile being used for the capture card, and what the card/driver say? (Use the v4l2-ctl utility to query it.)

- Have you checked the settings of your sound card/chip drivers using the ALSA utilities? (Use the alsamixer utility and make sure that PCM isn't muted or at zero volume. Also do the diagnostics that slowtolearn suggested.)

I am sorry guys I just realized the extent of my stupidity. Somehow during my troubleshooting I had disconnected the audio cables from the back of the TV. I went trhough some troubleshootig like slowtolearn said and I realised that I could not hear anything on any application. I am sorry for making you waste your time.

I have some more issues but I am going to post them as new questions so that people that have the same isues can see them.

1) I can't find my XF86Config-4 eveybody says is under /etc/X11 but I cannot find it there

2) I mage quality is not what I was expecting, I do not know if it is the NVIDIA 5200 or what but the colors look dull and the frame rate is tolerable but it is not as smooth as normal TV.

These are both FAQs.

- The file is now "/etc/X11/xorg.conf". This is covered in the R5F27 Hints as Known Change 2.1.

- If you're scaling on output this can happen (say capturing at 720x480 and outputting at 800x600). This is covered on the Picture Quality troubleshooting page on the wiki as well as this recent thread: http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18121 Also try Bob2 Deinterlacing.
