I've tried recompiling a number of times, but I can't watch TV (or recorded TV) at all. :cry:

When going back to my old "working" settings.pro, mythfrontend spits out "Not compiled with any usable video output method". I uncompressed a fresh copy of the source, re-instated my changes (for DVB support), and it still fails with the same message. Tried doing it all over again with a "make clean" from the mythtv source root directory. Same thing happens.

<edit>

Doh! I forgot to change the "PREFIX" in settings.pro after re-extracting the source. Now have TV running again, and working on getting rid of the blue screen.

<edit #2>

Ok, got it compiling and playing TV again, but whenever I comment out the the line "CONFIG += using_xv", I get a message saying there is no valid video out format. If I try compiling in the directfb stuff, it won't compile. I keep getting some "command not found" errors half way through the compile, and it barfs at the end.

I finally resolved the problem.

First, I'd installed the latest nvidia drivers, but never got them to work correctly. As soon as I changed 'Driver = "nv"' to 'Driver = "nvidia"', I couldn't get X to start. So, I'd been playing with the options under the default "nv" driver, and couldn't get them to work. A number of options were ignored (including all the TV Out ones), so I figured I'd need to get the "nvidia" driver working.

So I booted up, killed gdm and started disabling options in XF86Config-4 and ran startx to find out what the problem was. I turned out to be GLX. Once I disabled GLX, X worked and TV Out worked. I've since changed the configs for playing videos and DVD to use xv, and they work that way too. I had a little too much colour saturation, but that was resolved once I changed the output from "NTSC-M" to "PAL-B".

Thanks Cesman and Xsecrets for your help, suggestions and patience. :)

Search for a recent post by me on how to fix the GLX problem. Turns out the Nvidia script installs two copies of the tls library one of which is bogus...
