anyone able to successfully load the ATI drivers to enable tv-out? specifically, i have an ati radeon all in wonder 8500dv. i'm not trying to use the tuner, just the tv-out, so theoretically, it should work. i tried loading the fglrx package by downloading the .rpm from AIT's website, then converting it to a debian package using alien, but no luck in loading it. i've edited the XF86Config-4 file properly (i think), but X won't start and complains about libGL.so or something.

thanks,
dan

do you mean no luck loading the deb or no luck getting what you loaded to work?

to clarify, it is loaded, and it doesn't work. X won't start.

Anyone having luck with this.

I am in a similar situation with a friends machine. He has a Radeon 8500LE. I also converted the rpm using alien. When I install it using dpkg -i fglrx_4.3.0-411_i386.deb it mentions a few errors.

something like:
dpkg: errors processing fglrx_4.3.0-411_i386.deb (--install): trying to overwrite '/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2', which is also in package xlibmesa4-gl
subprocess paste killed . . .
(Sorry, I had to copy from one box to another.)

Also when attempting to startx I get Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist).

Should I extract the fglrx module and place it in another directory (if so which one), or is there a simpler approach to this issue.

write down the package its trying to overwrite, so you can reinstall it at a later time if need be then install the .deb with
[code]
dpkg -i --force-overwrite packagename.deb
[code]

the packagename in the above example should be the one you are installing, in this case the ati drivers.

I think I installed it.

I used dpkg -i --force-overwrite fglrx** (thanks Xsecrets :) )

Now it is a matter of fumbling with the correct refresh rates to get the tv working. My goal is to get the VGA output and the tv to be cloned. Any advice at this point would be helpful.

Ok, I am pretty sure I installed it. The only problkem is that I cannot get the tv out to work on its own. I get wavey lines like a bad horizontal/verticle refresh rate. I have tried several configurations. Here is my most recent:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
HorizSync 30 - 60
VertRefresh 50 - 60
Option "DPMS"

I have been able to get this particular telivision to work with an nvidia 4200. Is it possible that the ATI video card would need a different refresh rate for the same device?

Any help would be appreciated.

not likely, but if you are NTSC then your vertical refresh should be 60 no range just 60 NTSC tv is always 60 vertical refresh.

Hi,

I'm running 30.2 with a ATI Radeon 9000.
I installed alien and then gave the command:

Code:
install-radeon-debian.sh

When I went to restart gdm I am not able to start X. I get the following error:
(EE): Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE): No drivers available

I am not sure what is going on.

I am doing a Debian+Mythtv install on my Pundit R (Radeon 9100 IGT) and I got it working by installing a Debian package (from non-free) with ATI drivers and then running a "ati-configure" or "ati-setup" command.

This is the one
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/fglrx-driver

I don't have access to the machine right now but you will find the setup program by typing "ati" and then hit TAB for completion (at least that's what I did).
