I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:
MythStream of Live TV and OMG Gimme back my MythWeather!!

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:
MythStream TV was awesome for the times when my butt was stranded in some crap Motel in Mexico where I couldn't understand anything the locals were saying or the numerous times I was at work and wanted to goof off... I would like to mention that this version of MythStream TV when enabled gave you a web side remote for the stream to your VLC or what ever player you had so that if you wanted to fast forward you could click the web FF button a couple times to get past yer commercials. The current streaming method also doesnt allow for a 1/10 minute jump ahead buttons and that would be tremendously useful. MythWeather was just nice to have since I was already logged into MythWeb...

Feature/program X can be found at(please provide a link):
Buddy of mine has the procedure to install MythStream Live TV on his web site at but it doesnt work on the current Distros (Already tried): http://www.shantanu.biz/html/mythtv/myt ... ve_tv.html

Not sure where you can get a link for MythWeather...It seems to be goin away <Major Pout Face>

Program X has the following dependencies and can be found(please provide a link):
Hmmm...Not sure what the dependencies are other than my ADD

Please read the R5.5 Hints, MythWeather works just fine if you following the directions. See the last line under Known Changes #3.2.

I appreciate all the work the crew has put into Knoppmyth, and thanks for letting users make suggestions for the next release.

If possible, I'd like to be able to view Live TV from the tuner directly, not from the hard drive. It cold even be a different selection of watching TV.

I don't know how much work is needed for doing this.

When a person wants to record or instant playback they could use a "recorded viewing" section.

It gets a little tiring when a channel is changed and the viewer needs to wait 1-3 seconds for it to actually change.

Thanks, I hope I didn't offend anyone with this request.

jniffen,

Your request would have to be put to the MythTV developers as this would require a change at that level.

In all honesty I personally don't think it is going to happen, whilst I can appreciate the reasoning behind it. If this functionality was implement the question is raised, what happens if you are in the middle of viewing something and you have to run off, toilet, coffee, telephone, all reasons you need to pause live tv. If you accessing the tuner directly this functionality would not work.

Another example is you are watching a show and then find that you are falling asleep, so you want to tape the rest of the show so you can watch it at another time. Again this would not be not be possible if accessing the tuner directly as there is no buffer.

In the end the perceived benefits outweigh the time it would take to program such function, thus I don't like the chance of it being achieved.

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:

Some improvements to the installer to ask for basic stuff, which one usually has to do manually, like:

- "Do you want to enable mythweb?" / "Mythweb passwd?"
- "Do you want ot access MySQL database from your network?"
- "Enable VNC?"
- "Enable MythWelcome?"
- "Do you want to activate Samba shares?"
- ...

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:

It would save a whole lot of basic work, which one must always do when installing on a new hardware. For new users it will save a lot of googling and asking for advice and searching through the forums.

A few of those are already options in "Service Menu". Others will be added...

Elisa and Gloss-mc are excellent looking frontends to all of your myth content, mideos, music, dvd-s etc. The only thing they currently lack is watching of live tv.

I have tried to install Elisa, but Knoppmyth is missing lots of dependancies. Would it be possible for R6 to have these dependencies resolved, or even Elisa and/or Gloss to be pre-installed ???

I believe this would benefit the KM community because they are lovely looking frontends, similar to the iPhone interface, and would possibly help KM and Myth get wider appreciation and acceptance, AS IT SO RIGHTLY DESERVES !!!!

Gloss-mc Website - http://code.google.com/p/gloss-mc/

Elisa isn't a frontend for MythTV. It is it's own media center. There will be no dependencies included in R6 for packages that are included. That is not to say I've not thought about these two items...

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:

ddclient

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:

Dynamic DNS could be considered a core part of a home entertainment system (to allow scheduling/maintenance of recordings from anywhere on the internet). A recent poll revealed that the majority of people use the dyndns service and ddclient is their recommended update client.

Feature/program X can be found at(please provide a link):

http://cdn.dyndns.com/ddclient.tar.gz

Installation involves:
untar the tarball.
copy ddclient to /usr/sbin
copy sample-etc_rc.d_init.d_ddclient to /etc/init.d/ddclient
update-rc.d ddclient defaults
create the directory /var/cache/ddclient
copy sample-etc_ddclient.conf to /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf
uncomment the use=web in /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf

To make it work, the user must also make the following changes to /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf (using their dyndns account details):
uncomment the login= and password= lines and enter their dyndns user details
Uncomment the server=members.dyndns.org line and the protocol=dyndns2 line
update the your-dynamic-host.dyndns.org line to be the user's dynamic dns url.

And thats it. It would be good if one of the R6 configuration screens asked: Do you want to run a client to update your dyndns dynamic dns ip adderss? and if they select yes, prompt for the username, password and host url.

Program X has the following dependencies and can be found(please provide a link):

No dependencies that arent already included are required.

I'd like to see the ext3 file system be the default, or at least an option. I prefer the ext3 file system for it's robustness and the lack of maintenance needed (no defragging required). On my new (to me) all ATSC box, 3.2 Gig p4 with 1T sata drive, I have no stuttering problems while recording multiple shows and watching another one while deleting old shows.

I've answered this, the user will be able to choose whatever filesytem they want as the default.

Here's something I recently wished I could do. It's sort of a flag-on-the-fly feature. I searched each page in this topic for the word 'skip', so if I missed a similar request not containing that word, beg pardon. I guess it's likely this would have to go straight to MythTV developers, but I thought I'd start here and see if people think it's a good idea.

For a recorded program I want to watch that hasn't been flagged for commercials, would it be possible to have a 'skip to black' command that would read ahead to the next significant string of black frames?

And to fine-tune it, perhaps have default settings for a min/max number of consecutive black frames to match on, test for no audio, set a maximum time span for the jump, ...?

How about a little movable window that I could hover over the station logo and set into memory for the scan?

These are pretty good ideas, but they would be better put to the mythtv development team.
