I'm trying to set up two mythtv systems. I've had both working independantly, but wanted to be able to share recorded programs seamlessly. I decided to try to have one as master backend, and the second as a slave backend. Because the slave has a better TV card, I wanted to make ithave the card ID 1. I tried to follow the advanced backend config guide to defined the general stuff inthe master setup (including the video source--both are cable), and then define the first card on the slave. Unfortunately the slave does not have a video source.

SHouldn't it see the one I defined on the MBE?

I'm running myth back-end on both, and I'm pretty sure the mysql is set correctly, as the master shows it has added my SBE as a slave backend server when I start the SBE backend app.

WHat should I look at to verify that the SBE is providing resources to the MBE?

thanks,

I'm quite frustrated...
I've tested the mysql connectivity, and I can connect to my MBE from the SBE machine using the mysql command line, and select from the mythconverg DB--so it isn't a mysql permissions or config issue. I am also able to note that both the SBE and MBE register the SBE as a slave upon startup of the mythbackend app.

What is clearly not happening is the addition of my tuner card on the SBE to the MBE mythconverg DB on the MBE, when I run mythtv-setup on the SBE. I have the correct hosts in my general config, and I add the tuner in the setup, but no db entry shows up on the MBE.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you run mythtv-setup on SBE? Take a look at my LinHES documentation, it may help.

I realized that I needed to edit the /usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt in addition to the /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt on the slave, then it worked.

Of course I'm changing my plan now, and decided to reverse the roles, as what was to be the SBE is more likely to stay up, so I wish to make it the MBE instead and change over the MBE (which used to be the only mythtv backend) to be a SBE.
A critical question is: can I migrate shows recorded from a backend to another backend for playback? How can I do so?

thanks,

Assuming both boxens are KnoppMyth....
1) Change to hostname on SBE to whatever it is on MBE(you'll need to change MBE).
2) mythtv-setup on new MBE (you know what to do right?)
3) modify mysql.txt on new MBE
4) mythbackup on old MBE
5) On old MBE:scp /myth/backup/* root@mbe:/myth/backup/
6) On old MBE:scp /myth/tv/* root@mbe:/myth/tv/
7) mythrestore on new MBE

That should do... I think ;)

thanks, I did get it working, though they both weren't knoppmyth, one is Suse 9.1. I now put them back to individiual combo frontend/backend systems. I upgraded the Suse 9.1 to mythtv .16 from a tarball, and now I get a black screen whenever I try to watch tv...

I have my new MBE with PVR-250, PVR-350, and HD-3000 setup and working now and I'd like to get the video off of my old installation and migrate it onto the new installation. The new installation has 3 drives in LVM for about 400gb of space and the old drive is a 60gb. The 60 has everything installed and I can access all of the information (I have put it in an external USB enclosure).

Will this work to migrate the video from the old hdd to the new installation? I don't want to eliminate the new MBE but I do want to move the old video to the new machine. As a note, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that before so the new box has been recording for about a month and has quite a bit of stuff on it now.

Videos (MPEGs, AVI, OGM, etc.) or recorded programs? The above process wouldn't just bring the recorded programs over. You can use nuvexport to just bring programs over. You might also be able to dump just the recorded programs table and bring that over (something I have not done) and the programs.

I am interested in bringing just the recorded programs over. Sorry I didn't mention that.
