Hi i've got my system all up an running fine (i think) it has downloaded the listings and shows schedules and everything. Only problem is when i go to watch tv all I can see is snow and when i change channels it does still show information about the programs that are supposed to be on that channel.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jon

If your Pvr-250 is one of the newer models you may have to edit this file to compensate for the different tuner on the card (LG i think)

etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

This change should work

options ivtv card=85 type=39
options ivtv tuner=39

you can reference this here

http://www.poptix.net/ivtv/Sep-2004/msg00211.html

Hope this helps

Can you please share the following

What type of hardware do you have the more info you can show the better

Also

run

LSPCI -v and post the results

Things to try in the meantime

First one is physical ie move the card to a different pci slot , and the other is recompile IVTV according to this post

Good Luck

I've installed the nvidia drivers and those other driver thing to decode from hardware (i believe). I'm going to go run that right now and post the results.

i ran that command and it printed out a bunch of stuff... um maybe this is what you were looking for

Multimedia video controller: internext Compression inc: unknown device 0016 (rev 01)
Subsystem Hauppage computer works inc.: Unknown device 4009
Flags bus master, medium devse1, latency 64 irq 11

hope this helps ya.

The thing that is wierd is it shows the snow stuff like woulnd't it just be all black or blue if the actual card wasn't working?

I originally thought it was something with mythtv-setup but i'm not sure... i set under the capture cards to the mpeg2 decoder 250 350 setting and chose tuner 0 for the default input then under input connections i made tuner 0 to cable, the video source i selected. Could the broadcast thing be off... i see us cable us cable us broadcast and us cable hrc i'm on regular analog cable so i choose us cable...

Thanks,

Jon

All that sounds normal... Have you checked the output of the log?

okay here's what the log says (i'm reading this off of the tv and the characters are kinda fuzzy so i might put down like an n for an m or something like that)

it has a few of these
qsettings: error creating /.qt
qsettings::sync: filename is null/empty

unable to connect to database
driver errors was [1/-1]:
mysql3 unable to cnnect

couldn't open database
qsettings::sync: filename is null/empty (a few of these)
starting up as master server
mythbackend version .16xxxxxxxxxx
then that stuff
then starting up as the master server
qserversocket failed to bind or listen to the socket
failed to bind port 6543
qsettings error creating /.qt
qsettings sync filename is null empty (a few of these 2 again)

mainserverhandlefuence playback
adding mythtv as a client (events 0) (this is repeated a few times, on has events 1)
adding myuthtv as a remote ringbuffer
changing from none to watchingtv
changing from watchinglive tv to none

then a bunch of repeats and stuff
then it repeated the same kinda stuff as the last paragraph
then reading from dev/video
error input/output error
coudln't read data from the capture card in 15 seconds game over, man

it's repeated alot but that's basically the stuff that's in it.

Hopefully this helps

Jon

Look like it cannot connect to mysql...
/etc/init.d/mysql restart
/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart
Check the log again. If it still cannot connect to MySQL, something is seriously wrong. You can try the mysql logs and check to see if the tables are corrupt.

i did i'm trying it now... it didn't find any errors when checking it so i'm not sure what that means i'm going to reinstall sounds like a good idea even though i'd have to recomiple the drivers and reinstall the nvidida stuff but i figgure it'd be easier than trying to fix mysql.

Thanks for all your help i'll keep you guys posted as to how it goes

Jon
