Hi!

Last night I installed R4V5 on my VIA M10000 system with a pvr350 (I bought all the components around 3 weeks ago, so all is fairly new). The setup process went pretty well, although I had to go in to the XFree86 configuration files to remove some of the higher resolution settings; I was only seeing part of the MythTV screen.

My issue right now is that I see a lot of snow on my system although some images can be seeing in between all the snow. I also can listen to the audio, but also with a lot of noise. I notice I cannot change channels either. :?

I searched the forums for anything related to snow, but I couldn“t find anything useful.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm going to make an assumption: your tuner type is probably 47. When you see snow or poorly tuned channels it's indicitive of an incompatible tuner type. Even though you have a Hauppauge 350, which in the past has worked on the first try for some, it doesn't mean the hardware is identical. Every so often Hauppauge changes the parts they use for thier cards making old ivtv (Linux tuner card drivers) and kernel modules (specifically tuner.o) obsolete. There are fixes out there but they are not ideal. I had the same problems you're experiencing and have gotten the tuning to work well (but not perfectly, I'll need to do finetuning in mythweb) but I haven't had time or motivation to get to the screen sizing problems (I tried the offset and scale with limited sucess).

This thread might help http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2374
there's a link near the end to Chris Kennedy's fix which requires an upgrade of ivtv, upgrading the kernel to 2.4.27, and installing a patch for the tuner module (not fun). I'd suggest starting over from scratch using Jerrod's guide with FC2 with 2.6.x (which includes the updated tuner module).

Were you able to fix the screen dimensions? If so let me know.

FYI, on a recent PVR-350, I did have to upgrade my ivtv (to ivtv-0.3.1z, from chris's site). I used tuner type 44, not 47, though, which seems to work fine.

No kernel recompile was necessary.
