Help,

I have been tearing my hair out with this one... I have searched this forum as well as others and have not found a similar problem. I am running a NEW pvr-350 board with KnoppMyth R4V5 on a Shuttle SN41G2V2. I have it working pretty well using the TV out port on the Shuttle (Nvidia 6111 drivers). The problem is when I try using the TV-out port on the pvr-350.

The problem is that the video is very yellow/greenish and inverted! It also is a little blotchy looking. The other odd thing is that I though that perhaps I might have a bad pvr-350 board, so I installed it in my test system with WinXP and tried the normal software.... Surprise...No TV-Out! After several emails with Happauge support, I was told that there was a new software update posted on their website today. I downloaded this version (22) and installed. Well that fixed the TV-Out problems under WinXp. Looks like my pvr-350 is a working board at least.

So going back to my KnoppMyth system, I copied over the new pvr-350 firmware and compiled the ivtv drivers. Still had TV out problems... I have tried several ivtv-0.2xx and ivtv.0-3xx all with similar results. I have also tried many ivtvctl options, as well as several ivtv module settings.

The current firmware is:
305dba74bbe5905447add8883f3ecb68 /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-dec.bin
d85cb08382395390dc95ac6ebc2205f9 /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin

Does anyone have any ideas?

:?

I know this is for another distribution but maybe there are some hints for you here. It's worked for others in the past.

Dingaling,

Thanks for the reply. My PVR-350 TV-out is working so I do not think it is an issue with the ivtv-fb. I can view both the Myth TV output as well as X through the TV-out port. It just looks really horrible!!

I am wondering if they might have changed the hardware on the card itself, as I had to download the latest drivers/application to get it to display under Windows XP! Has anyone else ever heard of this type of problem before with ivtv and MythTv, or do I need to reinstall KnoppMyth from scratch?

Rod

Found part of my answer at http://www.poptix.net/ivtv/Nov-2004/msg00217.html

It is a new chip that Hauppauge is using... SAA7129

I changed the 0x6C register for the Decoder from "f9" to "fa" and the TV-out picture cleared up! # ivtvctl -j reg=0x6c, val=0xfa

One problem down... Now the remaining problem(s) are what appears to be a layer of video noise and washed out colors. The TV-out image is like looking at a color cartoon in a comic book up close. Lots of cross hatching and color loss.

Update: The video cross hatching and color loss is gone when I use the composite video cable, looks great... Could be a bad s-video cable or I might need to tweak the output settings for the ivtv driver.
:)

You may have your options wrong in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

Since the pvr-350 uses the same wires to output both RCA and S-video, you need to load the drivers properly to use s-video. I found this stuff on someone else's posting. Looks like you want to make sure you're using "output_select=1" for your saa7127 options.

# output_select 0==> composite, 1==>svideo
options saa7127 enable_output=1 output_select=1

I was never able to clear up the video signal when I used the svideo output so I just stayed with the composite. It must be some problem with my TV set because I had tried setting the ivtv options to svideo out as well as the range of ivtvctl -l options. Or it might possibly be a problem with the new decoder chip on the PVR-350 itself as I had to modify the register settings to remove the green/purple image. I am happy with the signal of the composite, although I do have a very faint retrace pattern, but I can live with that.

After a month of head banging I now have a stable KnoppMyth system with the TV-out from the PVR-350. I am currently using the "ivtv.0.3.1x" driver and my Myth system has been rock solid for over 48 hours now. This driver fixed my problems of encoder buffers running out.

I have also have had good luck in streaming from MythWeb for my MP3 collection and TV recordings by using the DSMyth TV filters on my Windows XP box. I am having a problem of not being able to edit new recordings without locking up my frontend. With the PVR-350 these recordings are MPEG2. After I transcode them into MPEG4 I can then edit them... Any ideas on not being able to edit MPEG2 recordings anyone?
