I have an Athlon based Myth box running (v4r5) with an older Geforce MX 2 card w/tv out. I'm looking to upgrade the card with as few config changes as possible. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the Geforce MX4000 card fits that bill.

http://www.xfxforce.com/product_view.php?sku=PVT18LQT is a link to the card at the manufacturers site.

I'm also open to recommendations for other cards. I want Y/C output (would kill for component out to my non-hdtv component tv, but will settle for y/c) with the ability to stretch the image to fill the entire screen. Overscan support is non-existant in the card I"m running now and it's a bit annoying.

Details:

KnoppMyth V4V5
Athlon XP 2100
Hauppauge 350
512MB RAM
Geforce MX2 AGP card w/tv out.

Thanks.

Scott

Ok there is no component output in linux without a converter, so forget that one for now.

I would suggest the fx5200 cards. They are fanless and have vga svid and dvi output, and are fairly cheap.

Also there is overscan for the gforce2 cards, you have to use nvtv for it, and there is actually a howto get it to come up every boot over on the wiki.

I too have a GeForce 2 MX 400 and I use nvtv for overscan on my TV.

I actually found that on my tv, I needed to change the horizontal position via nvtv which was not an option available from the command line, so i hacked the code to allow this to be specified on the command line.

I actually put the call to nvtv in the .fvwmrc file just before the "exec KnoppMyth-run" line. I also made the changes to start nvtvd as root when the computer booted.

This worked but I still have the problem that if I use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to the console and then switch back to X using Alt-F7, the changes made by the original call to nvtv are lost, and the picture is in the wrong position/overscan again.

Does anyone know how to get nvtv to automatically do its thing when switching from a console back to X?

I use an XFX MX4000 (mine is the PCI version). I'm happy with it. I'm in a PAL region, but I'm currently running it NTSC (as my TV supports both and I'm still working with defaults). The default CF86Config-4.nvidiatvout works fine for me (after installing nvidia drivers 6629 is the version I'm running)

I'm yet to correct the overscan, as it's by default set to 0.8 and I need to pull it in a bit, as it's currently displaying larger than my TV.

One thing to note: If you're doing a build with the card installed as the primary video device, on reboot it might freeze up because the default video modeline in lilo.conf conflicts with the card for some reason. I set lilo.conf video=normal however in order to do that, I had to disable the MX4000 in the bios, and select my on-board video card, boot up in that, change lilo.conf, (don't forget to run lilo), reboot to make sure it boots properly again, then reboot again, and change your bios back to the mx4000, and reboot. It should come up a treat.

Like I said, good card. XvMC performance is a bonus for low pwered machines too.

Regards
Simon
