I have one of the M402U units on my WindowsXP box and love it. I was wondering if MythTV could support using it as an input device so I checked to see if there were any Linux driver projects a foot... Not exactly, but there is some hope, see http://forums.divx.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc& ... =295101302

It looks like there should be a Linux driver released around the end of January including one for the TV402U (TV Tuner).

Plextor has now released the Linux driver as an SDK. You can download it at http://www.plextor.com/english/support/LinuxSDK.htm

I have not tried using the driver with KnoppMyth yet, but post your results if you do try. One note, the driver only supports the 2.6.10 kernels so you will need to upgrade your kernel first.

The next release of MythTV will offer support for these units. The next release of KnoppMyth does have the driver and firmware.

I installed Knoppmyth 5A15 yesterday.
After manually fixing lilo (for some strange reason lilo.conf contained strange "part" lines and lilo didn't get installed, fixed this using chroot, modifying lilo.conf and executing lilo) I got into the configuration of Mythtv. The Plextor didn't got recognized automatically (I saw some complaints on /dev/video).
As I am quite new to Linux, it ends here for me for the time being. Anyone who owns a TV402U has got it recognized ? Any suggestions are welcome. In the meantime I will have a look at the official Plextor SDK package.

I'd suggest post to or reading the MythTV archives for more info.

Try
Code:
modprobe wis<TAB><TAB>
You'll see several options, try one at a time. Once you know which one works for your device add it (just modules name)to /etc/modules.

I'm also having problems with plextor & knoppmyth5A15.
After istall I couldn't find the correct modules anywhere (I searched the whole disk for go7007).
I downloaded plextor's SDK package, and was able to install it (first unpack the kernel source in /urs/scr). Now Plextor's sample program gorecord works for me, but I still don't see anything in mythtv. When I start watching TV the screen is black for a while, and then I return to the menu.

The release has MythTV and firmware support for the Plextor. However, it appears it's missing the kernel modules to actually do anything with them.
Code:
mythtv@mythtv:/usr/src/wis-go7007-linux-0.9.4/kernel$ ls *.ko
go7007-usb.ko  snd-go7007.ko   wis-sony-tuner.ko  wis-uda1342.ko
go7007.ko      wis-saa7115.ko  wis-tw9903.ko

If you don't see these in /lib/modules/2.6.11.7-chw-3/extra/ then I'm recalling this correctly, and the next release needs to ship them.

It's also possible that hotplug etc isn't actually loading up the proper drivers. On my system I now see:
Code:
mythtv@mythtv:~$ lsmod | egrep '^(wis|go)'
wis_sony_tuner          9484  0
wis_uda1342             4740  0
wis_saa7115             7044  0
go7007_usb             12288  0
go7007                 46976  6 wis_sony_tuner,wis_uda1342,wis_saa7115,go7007_usb

At this point, the Plextor shows up as /dev/video0 and /dev/dsp1.

Also, you need to configure "reasonable" settings for the capture card in mythtv. My NTSC livetv setting is 720x480, 3900kbps, all buttons checked (except scale bitrate). I strongly recommend 48000Hz audio, as that's the native rate.

I'm still experimenting with various sizes and bitrates. I suspect this driver will blow up badly with capture sizes that aren't in the chart at http://plextor.com/english/products/PX- ... chspec.htm but I've been able to dial down the bit rate pretty comfortably. But 4MBps is the defined max for the rate, so going over that may lead to weirdness.

I apologize for the vagueness of this. My backend only has 128M and initially only a USB 1.1 connection. Helpful hint: don't do that. Everything started working a lot more reliably once I stuck in a USB 2.0 PCI card.... Anyway, I just flailed until it worked, and I didn't take notes on how I got from broken to working.
