Hi,

I have started the Greater Dayton Ohio Area MythTV User Group. It is registered in the MUG directory and I have a Yahoo! Groups mailing list started to get organized.

http://mythtv.info/moin.cgi/Dayton_2c_2 ... _20Area_29

I have seen a little bit of interest so far and am trying to drum up some members in the Dayton Ohio region. I think they are out there but finding out where is a bit of a challenge.

If you are from Dayton Ohio or near by please consider joining the list. Even if you decide that this is not for you, stop by for a little while and toss out your ideas on where all the local MythTV users so the MUG can get going.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DAY-MUG

There are settings on the mailing list for those who don't want to receive mailings and just occasionally monitor the list from the web. Even still this is a very low volume list so volume won't be a problem. If you know local MythTV users not on this list, send me an email and I will send them a personal invite to join.

The group is just starting up so there are no events planned yet. There are no obligations in the MUG other than joining the mailing list. Hopefully when the MUG gets going we can have some events of a very informal nature. I am hoping for just small group get togethers to demonstrate people's MythTV boxes and compare notes, swap ideas, trade stuff, kickstart newbies, etc.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Andrew Lynch

PS, MythTV and KnoppMyth are great!

We are up to 8 members now. Its a sort of slow start but hopefully it will pick up as more Dayton area people join up.

New and improved DAY-MUG, now with 11 members, real content and actual non-moderator posts!

Finally saw some real activity today. Whew, that's a relief. I was starting to think everyone was going to make me talk (post, actually) the entire time!

Come on Dayton Ohio MythTV users, join the fun on DAY-MUG. And you can even ask the "forbidden question" there*.

THANKS!

Andrew Lynch

PS, as always, KnoppMyth Rocks!

* Of course, no one knows the answer...

Well, DAY-MUG is growing steadily and project ideas are rolling in. One thing does bother me though and is how to find and contact all the Dayton Ohio folks interested MythTV.

I have already posted on here, mythtvtalk.com, mythtv-users list, DMA Linux-SIG list, and the mythtv.info MUG page.

Where else would people be hanging out? I already decided against mythtv-dev since this is a user issue, not a developer issue.

There is a small group on HTPCnews.com forums but that seems like a fairly small group. Maybe I'll post a small note there.

Any ideas appreciated.

I do know that some people really do not like Yahoo! Groups and won't join because of that. I personally don't have a problem with Yahoo! Groups I used egroups.com previously (its predecessor before the big tech bubble burst in 2000). Are there any real free (as in beer and in speech) alternatives without having some association with someones internet server?

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

He wants to start a MUG. What is wrong w/ that? You don't like in Ohio. Don't worry about it. :)

Hi Folks,

I need to update you on DAY-MUG. We've been growing and have outgrown our old Yahoo! Groups mailing list. We are now affiliated with the Dayton Microcomputer Association Linux Special Interest Group and have a new mailing list. Please see the URL below.

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch
