The DigitalSoundHowTo wiki at http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... AudioHowTo works for R4v5.

I just tried it with R5v10 without success.

Code:
cat /proc/asound/pcm

If you see:

00-00: Intel ICH : NVidia nForce2 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-01: Intel ICH - MIC ADC : NVidia nForce2 - MIC ADC : capture 1
00-02: Intel ICH - IEC958 : NVidia nForce2 - IEC958 : playback 1

you are in good shape: skip to step #10!

So far so good! It seems that the alsa drivers are installed by default.

BUT...

After I changed mythtv Settings -> General -> Audio from "/dev/dsp" to "/dev/adsp", it says: "Error opening audio device (/dev/adsp), the error was: No such device" when I try to Watch TV.

Changing it to ALSA:digital didn't work either ..

Anybody have any clues about this?

Thanks heaps ...

Try using ALSA:spdif for the output.

When I try ALSA:spdif or ALSA:digital it says:

Mixer attach error -2: No such file or directory
Check Mixer Name in Setup: /dev/mixer

Then I tried to link /dev/mixer from "mixer0" to "amixer0" .. still the same error :(

Yay .. found the problem .. thanks for your help ..

I just had to uncheck the "Use internal volume controls" checkbox .. then the mixer settings disappear (they're not needed i guess becos of the external alsa mixer??) ... problem solved ..

next is getting dvb ac3 working .. hmm .. dvb channels that have ac3 audio streams automatically get selected .. great :)

If you could correct the wiki to reflect how things work now, that would be great.

but at the same time leave the old instructions in tact for people still trying to install the R4 series.

From the updated page:

Quote:
--EDIT: R5V10 is a bit different here. Setting to "/dev/adsp" does not work. You need to set it to "ALSA:digital" and also uncheck the "Use internal volume controls" checkbox. You will see that the mixer settings disappear (they're not needed i guess becos of the external alsa mixer??).

Did you mean to say ALSA:spidf? ALSA:digital did not work for me, but ALSA:spidf did.

Liv2Cod,

ALSA:digital works for me. But, I forgot to mention that I upgraded to alsa 1.0.8, which *may* explain why it didn't work for you.

I will mention ALSA:spidf in the wiki ..

Make sure it's 'spdif', not 'spidf'. :)

(Reference is to S/PDIF which is aka Sony/Philips Digital InterFace)

Grr! :x I can't get mythmusic to work. Tried putting ALSA:spdif in audio general settings but there is no sound, and mythfrontend becomes very unresponsive when i try to play music.

Help!

there is a new note at the top of the digitalaudio page at the wiki about how to get /dev/adsp on the R5alphas. you might try that and see if it helps.

SWEET! Good job guys! I'm almost giddy. I spent 4 hours yesterday and got knoppmyth up with the pvr-350 displaying live tv through the tv-out (although it drops frames), dvd playback working, lirc working. That compared to the 6 months it took me to get to that point before is pretty impressive. Now I can get digital audio finally? FANTASTIC!
