I've just installed R5A12 and can't get any picture from my PVR350. I installed XP and Win2kTV first and scanned so I have the frequencies. I then installed R5A12, ran "mplayer /dev/video0" and "ptune.pl -F 174500", but I only get a blank mplayer window. I switched to the first terminal and noticed this:

ivtv: i2c client addr: 0x40 not found!
ivtv: i2c client addr: 0x40 not found!
saa7115: decoder disable output
ivtv: i2c client addr: 0x40 not found!
saa7115: decoder enable output
ivtv: i2c client addr: 0x40 not found!
ivtv: i2c client addr: 0x40 not found!

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

have you read all the documentation about the new alphas?

What documentation do you mean? I've searched around and read what I've found, but I've probably missed tons of info also.

After spending hour after hour testing different settings in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv I got annoyed of switching cable between my tv and the computer, so I got another short cable and plugged that in, and suddenly I could tune. I don't _think_ I passed any options to the modules that I didn't pass before.

The strange thing is the 'old' cable (a 10m/30ft one) worked find with my TV, and it works okay with windows and WinTV2000. But, not with ivtv. VERY strange IMO.

Nope, it wasn't the cable. After warm boot I could still tune. After cold boot I could not. *sigh* MCE is starting to look mighty tempting, but I'll struggle on a bit more...

Remove
Code:
options tuner type=2
from /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv and reboot. The "errors" you listed look normal to me... What happens when you try and watch TV from Myth? Anything in the backend log?

Well, this may be related, someone let me know, but I can't get mplayer to work wtih PVR-350 out. This may be an old issue, but I don't know where it stands with the new release. I know that if I install R4V5 and play a DVD, it works. If I setup pvr-350 out, then the dvd playback using mplayer does not work. Maybe this is what you are running into also? Do you get any TV output via the pvr?

I'm not trying to get TV-out, I'm just trying to capture. I'll get an MX with DVI once I have something to output.

Wow. Didn't even respond to my suggestions/questions. Guess I don't have to bother in the future...

Sorry, cesman! I didn't notice your post. You and SnapperDragon replied close and I only saw the last post.

I'll try your suggestion this weekend, and report back.

I've gotten it to work. I changed by /etc/myth/modules/ivtv to this:

Code:
alias char-major-81 videodev

options tda9887 pal=B
options ivtv ivtv_std=2 tda9887=0
