Installed R5A12 on an Epia M10000 (512MB, HD3000, FireWire to a 6200). I received the same 83% install (with a couple of errors that disappeared off the screen so quickly, I could read them) message as another poster.

Next, I entered my root password and went through the configuration (selected DHCP for now). After I completed the backend setup, I get:

QSettings: error creating /root/.qt
QSettings::sync:filename is null/empty
No setting found for this machine's BackendServerIP.
Please run setup on this machine and modify the first page
of the general settings.
Channel(/dev/video32): CheckChannel failed. Please verify channel "2.1" in the "seup" Channel Editor.
ERROR: FireWire Input configured, but no FireWire support compiled in!
Remore the card from configuration, or recompile MythTV.

I am getting a valid IP from my router. I've left the backend at localhost and 127.0.0.1 for both entries.

Is FireWire supported out of the box with R5A12 or is a recompile necessary?

I tried to apt-get install firefox and got a bunch of errors ending with the suggestion: You might want to run apt-get update to correct these problems. Are they any issues with running apt-get update or should I only update via new releases of knoppMyth?

I have searched these forums and the mythtv-users list before posting.

Thank you for your assistance.

No.
You first have to apt-get update before you apt-get install anything.
