Hello,

I have an HD tv that has HDMI, Svideo, and Component inputs...

Whats the best and cheapest way to output from my computer to the tv? I know these HDMI cables are insanely expensive.

Does Svideo support HD resolutions?

Thanks!

SVIDEO does not do 720P or 1080i (or 1080p for that matter)

HDMI cables aren't so expensive if you buy online. Unless you're doing a 100 foot run, do not buy Monster, it is insanely expensive for most uses.
They make HDMI to DVI cables or HDMI to DVI adapters.

I have yet to hear of anyone getting 1080i working over DVI.

Transcoders (used for VGA to component) need modelines for X which can be annoying to set up, but they do seem popular with myth users and if your TV is something someone's already setup, getting a modeline might be easy.

Some video cards (e.g. high end NVIDIAs) come with component off the card itself but I have not heard of anyone using these cards with myth.

Good luck,

Amy

So your saying that Component also will give me the ability to transfer HD from my computer to my HD tv?

How about sound? How do people get the best sound from their computer to their stero receiver?

Why cant DVI give 1080? I thought DVI is the 2nd best to HDMI?

Yes, YPrPb component will do HD.

Most people blame Nvidia's drivers for the failure to support 1080i over DVI.

Many people use a SPDIF connection between their soundcard and their stereo receiver.

I don't think the nvidia cards with component output work with the linux nvidia drivers, at least that is what I had reported to me by someone on this board that bought one and tried it.
