I have everything working in r5A12, except my remote.

I tried following the ATIRemote page on the Knoppmyth Wiki but could not find the add_ati_remote file.

I am getting the following in /var/log/lircd

Mar 23 20:07:51 mythtv lircd 0.7.0: lircd(hauppauge) ready
Mar 23 20:08:14 mythtv lircd 0.7.0: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Mar 23 20:08:14 mythtv lircd 0.7.0: could not open /dev/lirc
Mar 23 20:08:14 mythtv lircd 0.7.0: default_init(): No such device
Mar 23 20:08:14 mythtv lircd 0.7.0: caught signal

I installed the latest lirc but that did not seem to help.

My /etc/modprobe.d/lirc
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
install lirc_i2c /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install lirc_i2c

Let me know if any other files would be helpful

Could anyone offer suggestion as to the problem.

ati remotes don't use lirc.

and I don't have one, but I believe that since the module is included in the kernel now the install script is not needed, but I could be totally wrong on that account. probably all you need to do is add the proper module (sorry not sure what it's called) to the /etc/modules file.

that is right in r5A12 atiremote is aktivated and work.
but there is also problems with it, the only working keys are: numbers, up, down, left, right, a, b, c and d.
Play, Stop Pause etc dont work.
Where is the file where i can configure the keys???

Well in 2.6 kernels you have to edit the keys in the kernel module source, and recompile the modules this will of course break ivtv which will need to be recompiled and reinstalled. I belive so work is being put into this to have it corrected for future releases.

I see on the Gatos website that work on ati_remote has been discontinued as the code is now in the kernel AND lirc.

Now with my installation, could there be a conflict with the kernel module and lirc?

How can I confirm that I am using/loading the kernel module?

Would it hurt to install the ati_remote loadable module? I guess I am looking for someplace I can see what is going on and get my mind around it.

Thanks for the help. BTW mythtv is working great! I am recording as I write. I just cannot put my box under my tv until I can get away from the kb and to the remote. :)

THanks again,
Chris.

I just went through an ordeal getting my ATI Remote Wonder working with R5A12, too, but it turns out it was all my fault.

I was trying to be clever and stealth the remote's wireless receiver inside the case, and that was sufficient to prevent it from getting any signal from the remote :( Silly me. I'm still looking for a sweet spot inside the case where it'll work.

Maybe you did something similar? You may already have your remote working but it just isn't getting signal. Even if it isn't inside the case but is on your case, behind a hunk of metal, etc. it may have problems. Try moving it into a position where it is sure to receive signal before going further with your configuration steps.

As for confirming you're loading the kernel module, type:

Code:
lsmod | grep ati_remote

If you get something like this:

Code:
ati_remote             12424  0

(the numbers will be different) then the module is being loaded.

I noticed this thread and thought I would contribute some of my knowledge.

I personally have yet to set up a Knoppmyth box but have been using, working on, and contributing to GeeXBoX. I was able to get the Remote Wonder II working with it without a lot of fuss.

It seems that the Remote Wonders use the same USB Receiver. The LIRC that is within Knoppmyth looks to be the lirc-0.7.0 version. Within this version is the module lirc_atiusb. Instead of using the lirc_i2c or lirc_gpio, use the lirc_atiusb. Now the lircd.conf file needs to be updated for the RW II remote. The newer versions of the lirc source code, such as the lirc-0.7.1pre series (unstable) has a whole slew of new remote configuration files. The lirc.conf.atiusb file has about seven entries, one is for the RW II, named the Sapphire Remote Bob II. Cut out this section and save it as the lircd.conf file that lircd references. I have included the necessary content below:

Quote:

Now I'm personally about to rebuild my system from Mandrake 10.1 to a Knoppmyth box as the testbed for my future HTPC. Then I will be able to work with the details of this remote. In the meantime, I hope this has helped. No need to use the ati_remote files from GATOS, they're already in LIRC.

Hi,

I notice that some codes are repeated, i.e. the aux buttons:

aux1 0x023F
aux2 0x023F
aux3 0x023F
aux4 0x023F

and the mouspad:

mouse-up 0x013F
mouse-down 0x013F
mouse-left 0x013F
mouse-right 0x013F

Does this mean that we can't use the mousepad? Also, what about

mouse-up-left
mouse-up-right
mouse-down-left
mouse-down-right
mouse-left-click
mouse-right-click
mouse-drag

Did they get left out? Can we use irrecord to get these keycodes?

Cheers,

-Morten
