Okay, so I haven't been able to get X working correctly.

I used the Nvidia XF86Config example that came with it, after I installed the kernel module.

Here are my findings (based on X driver)

nvidia: nothin' - black screen. Oddly enough, if I change the config to allow the logo, I get a good color picture of it in 800x600... but nothing else.

nv - black and white, and it chops off the screen

vesa - black and white, everything lines up perfectly

What the heck am I doing wrong?

The sample is just that a sample. Revert to the XF86Config that was generated for the hardware would be the first thing to do to ensure that it isn't a hardware problem. But it sounds like it is. I'd also suggest an earlier version of the nvidia drivers, but again sound like hardware.

Well I switched back to the old one, and changed the driver from nv to nvidia. At least a got a cursor this time!

If I leave it as nv (ie. stock) everything's cut off and black and while. It works fine when hooked up to a monitor, so I don't think it's hardware related.

Does anyone have an example of a working XF86Config file for their TNT2 they'd like to post?

Try an earlier version of the nvidia drivers.

Look what I found when I was Googling the problem:

The last NVidia driver are 6629 (Release Date: November 5, 2004)

But there is still the 6111 In Ubuntu Hoary

Is there a reason of the non-update of this package ?
Some problems?
Or is it just a time question ...

thx
The 6629 driver is broken for very old nvidia cards like TNT, TNT2, and some very early GForce cards (broken as in "only black screen" or "no refreshes at all"). Users with these cards have to revert to 6111. A bug is already filed to NVIDIA, maybe they fix it next driver version, maybe not.

Good call!

Everything's working with 6111 now. If only I could get my tuner card working I'd be set...
