Early on in my searches for MythTV info I saw that people were modding xboxes to put linux on, and then use them as cheap frontends for myth. Not a bad idea, as they are cheap, and a whole computer which graphics are already designed for connecting to a television. Even HD Television connections are available although HD content maybe too much for it to handle

Today flipping through my Microcenter circular (a computer store that had its beginings in ohio where I am) and what do I see, XBOX Media Center Extender Kit

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/evaluation/devices/xboxextenderkit.mspx

now this didn't exist when they initially came out with MCE, and I doubt they have taken any code from anyone in the opensource community, but I am sure M$ is aware that people are buying xboxen and modding them for HTPC uses, and that could have sparked the idea to make a legal (to thier user aggreement) version of this that would promote thier own software and keep people from turning to homebrew projects like myth.

Or they could be worried about the Play Station X.

I tend to think that MythTV is very much under the radar. If it wasn't, I think broadcasters would have worked out all the blank frames long ago.

I just noticed yesterday while watching Lost that they faded between the station commercial and the program. Its strange and I wonder if it was intentional to prevent commercial flagging.

I have always thought Microsoft has looked at the modders and decided their is a market out there for this kind of product. Also I think they are trying to grow the Xbox brand into the home theatre PC community.

XBox 2 is going to be a complete multimedia center. Hmmm.. I wonder how the thought to do that? Another brilliant "1st time Microsoft idea"?
