I've run into a problem setting up my video source. I've done a fresh installation of R5A12, I then had to install my network card manually which is the only thing I've changed.

Now if I do the following:
- start the computer and exit MythTV, then go to an XTerm window and run mythtv-setup
- select to keep current caprture card settings
- select to delete channel settings
- then go into video sources and select to add a new video source
- complete setting on that screen: UK, default

The notice 'configuration will run in the terminal window' is displayed. When I hist save a progress bar pops up which jumps to 50%, but then hangs. I'm sure something is going on in the XTerm window but I can't figure out how to switch to it. All I can do is Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then reboot.

I've searched on the forum but can't find anything along these lines.

Is it possible to switch to the Xterm window that I spawned the mythtv-setup from? Is output from this windows logged anywhere?

Thanks.

Can't you Alt-Tab to the terminal window? There is another thread were someone wasn't able to Alt-Tab after the mythfilldatabase message if I remember correctly, you could try search again with that term...

Thanks that worked!

The terminal window was waiting for some input, and I think I managed to add the channels I wanted.

There were also some messages on the console from when myth-tv setup first ran. These were:

Quote:
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: Connection refused

They're quite ambiguous - I'm not sure how important they are?

Mos tlikely related to LIRC, you can ignore it (unless you want to use LIRC).

Going back to the 50% progress bar problem...

The solution is to press ALT+TAB
This bring up a terminal window, in which part of the mythsetup is running, but waiting for some user input.
In my case it couldn't sort the tv channels out, so I had to type them in by hand.

Like miraclemaker I too had the 'cannot connect to socket' error, further playing points to the mythtvbackend not running...

If you ALT+TAB again and then ALT-F6 (for example), you can start mythtvbackend by just typing it in.

I'll start another thread about the actual fix though...

mythtv-setup is not dependent on the backend running. In fact, if you have a DVB card, you must stop the backend.

If that's true, that's unfortunately not mentioned in the DVB setup instructions pointed to by the A15 announcement...

http://www.digitalregime.com/mythdvb/setup/

So I have to manually stop the backend, then go into mythtv-setup and setup the HD3000 card via DVB, then exit and restart the backend manually?

THX!!!

That helped me alot, thought it was the console on CTRL+ALT+F1, but it is indeed the ALT+TAB and for me i just said all to the question about the channels, and sorted the channels in the scan in the next step.
