I have installed R4 and when I goto live tv the colors are all in B&W. If I use the function keys to adjust I can come close to getting them set correctly execpt for the hue control. It goes to either 0 or -49. Is anyone else having this problem and where might I look to fix this.

Thanks
Robert Howard

First, I've heard of this... Offhand, updated the ivtv drivers and or change slots the card is in. You can also check the mythtv and ivtv archives.

@robert
have you found a solution to your problem? I Just got my PVR-350 and played around for a couple of days with SageTV, wasn't working for me so back to Knoppmyth... Installation went very well but I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I was attempting to adjust the settings for recording to improve the picture and the hue settings were only cycling between 0 and -49 and the picture looked pretty bad. I'm just wondering if there is a quick fix before a bend my install out of shape trying to fix it ;)

currently: nvidia geforce2 mx440 tvo, so my pq expectations are not very high, but I had it working so-so on my previous install. The only difference is a change from an old WinTV card to a pvr350.

updated ivtv as per Cecil's instructions, changed back to viewing on monitor only. Same problem, function keys to set hue while watching tv do not allow proper adjustments, they just jump between 0 and -49.

and you are using a regular svideo cable with svideo connections on each end? no converters or composite anywhere? One thing you could try is adding the "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO" setting in XF86Config-4 file.

This hue adjustmentment issue while recording tv can't be dependant on cables. I have the same picture quality adjustment issue when viewing on my pc monitor as when viewing through the composite out to the tv. When viewing tv on my previous tv-tuner (old bttv based WinTV card) I could adjust the recording picture using the function keys, allowing adjustments between 0-100 on color, brightness, hue, etc. The TV out quality was not great but it was tweakable to make it tolerable. Currently (since clean install with pvr-350) I can adjust all the properties except for some reason the hue toggles between 0% and -49% instead of allowing smooth adjustment between 0-100 percent. And yes it looks fugly with hue at 0% or -49%. ;)

just for grins what nvidia video driver are you using? did you use the install-nvidia.sh script that came with knoppmyth or have you updated to one of the newer drivers?

The reason I as is that the controls you are talking about are xv playback controls. Really shouldn't have anything to do with your capture card It should be affected by your xv output, which would be your videocard. I don't know if you noticed, but if you don't go into the playback options and turn on use xv somethingorother then you won't be able to use those controls.

I personally use the nvidia instillation script that came with knoppmyth and have not upgraded or used any other script. I don't adjust my hue, but it does work just fine I tested it.

Are you using svideo input to the pvr card? If so, you may be using the wrong input. On my pvr 250, input #8 gives me the proper color picture from my satellite box, input # 0 gives me black and white.

@XSecrets
I use the same one as you, install-nvidia.sh from Knoppmythi install

@davem
I use the SVideo input with the composite-svideo adapter that came with the card. My 350 has no composite only jack, and my Starchoice satellite receiver has no svideo out. I'm going to check my second receiver and maybe do a swap. I'll rerun mythtv-setup and try different input to see.

I do have color it just looks fugly. Try changing your hue to 0 and see how it looks. :shock:

OT:
12:30AM last night some teenagers tore some christmas lights off my front step railing. I was tossing in bed when I heard some noise outside. I caught up with them a few blocks away, confronted them, gave them a piece of my mind and got my lights back. I guess I need another tuner and a camera working with motion so I have some video to review for next time. We have very little crime in our neighborhood but vandelism is such a nuisance. :roll:

use test_ioctl to test the inputs, it's much faster. Type:
test_ioctl -p 0
Wait for it to come to live tv (couple second delay), then do
test_ioctl -p 1

etc. until you've tried all the inputs. :)

if you are using a composite to svideo converter try the "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE" setting in XF86Config-4 file. I have heard other people using a converter had to do this.
