I went in a deleted a recording that was in progress. Now when I try to stop the recording in the guide or anywhere else it doesn't stop but just keeps on going and still reports that the program is recording. Is there anyway to get it to stop recording? Could this be a bug? I know for sure it was caused by me deleting the file of the recording that was in progress but it seems like this is something that the software should take care of to "dummy proof" the box.

I would concider it a bug or at least unexpected behavior, but that is the way the system works. If you delete a recording that is in progress it does stop the recording in the fact that it will never show up in recorded programs and won't create a file, however it does not release the recording slot so that you can schedule something else. If it was a 4hr golf game you are screwed from scheduling a recording for 4 hours.

But as I said this is just the way mythtv works right now. to even think about getting that changed you would have to mention it over on the mythtv mailing lists.

Consider it an excuse to add more tuners to the box. :)

How are you deleting it?

I swear I just did this the other day and had it work.
    - scheduled a recording on something I wanted to check out
    - watched the first five minutes of it and decided it wasn't worth watching the rest (while it was still recording)
    - deleted it
    - tuned to something else before the recording would have ended.

Time for an experiment...

Going into manage recordings and then delete recordings and delete the recording that is in progress.

Luckily it was only a 30 min show :D

Hmmm... I was doing it from the "watch recordings" screen but that shouldn't really matter... Let me go try the experiment now...
    - OK I just manually scheduled a recording on PBS from the web interface... Now to run into the other room...
    - OK, I went to watch recordings menu where the program showed up in red (or magenta maybe) indicating "currently recording"
    - I hit "d" and the little delete popup menu appeared.
    - I selected "really delete it"
    - the program disappeared from the list and there was a small flurry of disk activity.
    - I hit escape twice to get back to the main menu, then selected "watch TV" which worked. There may ahve been a minor delay, but it could have just ben my imagination too...
    - After a few seconds of that I hit the "up arrow" to tune to another channel to prove to myself that I wasn't just watching the recording...
Do you have something else happening on your system? Encoding or transcoding or something?

ok try the experiment with a slightly different twist setup an hour recording let it start delete it and then go back into the program guide and try to setup a half hour recording for the second half of that hour. I know this at least didn't used to work. livetv does things a little different with respect to free tuners which always baffes me why they did that since livetv handles tuner selection much better than recording I really wish they would use that in both places.
