My KnoppMyth distribution works great. Pretty much out of the box it was working fine. The only problem has been getting the TV out on my Radeon 7500 card to work. I'm a Linux noob, so I've been bumbling around the XF86Config-4 file, but haven't gotten it to work.

When I boot up, the TV display looks fine. As soon as GDM starts, it goes wanky like the refresh rate or resolution is wrong. I've tried a few resolutions (including 800x600), but pretty much get the same thing. I can't figure out how to change the refresh rate.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

If you are connecting to a TV, I suggest a res no greater than 800x600(unless you TV can handle higher resolutions). Have you tried atitvout? I don't have a ATi video adapter so I cannot give you further details.

usually tv's can't handle anything more than 30-50 horz and 60 vert for refresh rates.

I finally had to give up with trying to get my Radeon 7500 to work.
atitvout didn't work for me, and ATI only has closed-source drivers for the high-end models of the Radeon series (9000 and up).
Furthermore, project GATOS promises this functionality, but it's really complicated to get it work (basically, you have to recompile in most cases your XFree86 installation from sources!).

So, as I said, I finally gave up and now I've spent $30 in a used GeForce 4 and I'm happily running knoppmyth with tv out in almost no-time of configuration!

My advise: get a nvidia card. Otherwise, it's too much hassle to get ATI Radeon 7000 series cards to work.

So, txema, what sort of problems were you having with your card? The same as I'm having? ie: screwed up TV display when going to 800x600 resolution? If so, I will take your advice and get an nVidia card. I first wanted to try what I had.

Is there a ATITVOUT driver? I'm new to linux and struggling to sort out how to get the right drivers.

Tkx
