I'm running R5A15.1 and am trying to install a SABRENT SBT TVFM card.
The SBT is connected to Cable.

On boot I see that the card is auto-detected (SABRENT SBT, card=42) and the SAA7134 modules are loaded. The tuner is also set to tuner=17 and the tuner module is loaded.

I see that the Sabrent is setup as /dev/video0 (even the radio seems to be setup as radio0)

Doing an lspci the card is listed.

Unfortunatly even with all this setup. Knoppmyth says on boot "Knoppmyth found NO MULTIMEDIA VIDEO CARDS"

Using TVTIME and Xawtv I just get a Black picture. When I try to run mplayer (mplayer /dev/video0) I get a segmentation fault (probably just don't have the right options set?)

Does anybody have any ideas on what I need to change? All the other info I've found relating to this card talks about getting it detected, but nothing about it not working once it is detected.

Sorry for not posting the Dmesg output. I don't have access to the computer just now. If it's needed I can post that later.

The dmesg output after a fresh boot would help.

I'd suggest looking around other mailing lists too. A good search showed some hits on the v4l list that might be helpful...it seems linux support for this card is recent...

Hi Brendan,

You are correct the support for this card is rather new. Apparently a bit too new.

The autodetect capabilities in R5A15.1 configure the card incorrectly. At least for my version of the card.

The autodetect feature configured the card as
# modprobe saa7134 card=42 tuner=17

They must have updated the hardware since this was done because the correct setup is
# modprobe saa7134 card=42 tuner=43

I finally managed to type the right things into google and found this

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_saa7134

Everything you would ever want to know about setting up your saa7134 card.

Now on to some real fun: getting this to work with my pchdtv card :-)

Thanks for the help.
