Hi all. New user here. Or I hope so ... :-)

After some days searching google and list archives
I've decided to ask for some help here.

I'm setting up a new box where I would like to run frontend and backend.

I've installed knoppmyth RSA12 in manual mode. Everything went almost
fine ... almost. :-)

In fact my card is a pvr 500 MCE.
Read some incouraging posts and decided to go for it.

Following the PVR 500 R5A12 HOWTO by ralpha6 got the pvr 500 working
quite well with the ivtv drivers 0.3.2s.
Now i can get video with mplayer on both /dev/video0 and /dev/video1.
Tried switching frequencies with the utility ptune in ivtv utils and it
works.

But in mythtv i can't see live tv and seem recordings are fixed always on the
same channel.

I live in a PAL country (Italy) so in mythtv inserted everywhere the
pal standard resolution 720x576 insted of 720x480 suggested by the
howto.

Tought I had problems because of XFree could not cycle between
resolutions with standard XF86Config-4.
I've modified it and now I can go to 800x600, which, I suppose, is the
resolution for watching tv on my LCD monitor.

But when I try to see liveTV mythtv crashes.
And /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log says
/cache/cache/ringbuf1.nuv No such file or directory.

I inserted channel frequencies manually because there is not, at the
moment, a working tv_grab_it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Relevant hardware:
hauppage pvr 500 mce
GPU ati radeon 9200

Many thanks.

sounds like you have a permissions issue and for some reason can't write to /cache/cache to create the ringbuffer (temporary file that holds live tv so you can pause and rewind) you didn't happen to create a mythtv user like the instructions tell you not to did you?

Thank you for your answer!
Sure I did not created any mythtv user durig setup! I've read docs carefully :-)
Anyway I'm going to check permissions on /cache/cache and try to write in the partition.

Stupid me!!!
The directory /cache/cache was missing. Grrrr...
Quite happy now ...
But the live tv is awful with large squares all over the screen, while with mplayer is fine.
Any advice?
