Hi all:

Total newbie here, so please bear with me.
I've finally managed to get ivtv 0.3.2s compiled, and I was wondering...

Before I install 0.3.2s, do I need to uninstall ivtv 0.2.x (or any of its modules) that came with R5A12, or can you just install the new driver version?
If so, how do you do that, exactly? i.e. what commands would you need to type?

Is it generally safe to just install a new version of a driver?

The new version will install over the old.

Caveat: I seem to recall having problems with older versions of ivtv's "make install" in the driver directory not pushing the new tuner.ko module where it should be. I think 0.3.2s might be old enough where you may need to copy that manually to the target directory(s).

Thanks to both of you. That gave me the confidence to finish compiling, and load ivtv 0.3.2s. As of last night, I got my first captures through Linux with my PVR-150 card. They weren't bad at all, either.

As a related comment, I noticed a program called checkinstall, which is designed to automate uninstalling of things that you may not know how to uninstall on your own. Looks great for us newbies.

Now to fix my backend problem, and get the card to work in Myth. But that's another post, in another thread.
