Hi All,
I have just installed R5A15.1 on a box with a nova-t (the new conexant version). I am having some problems getting this up and running - when booting the system appears to setup the card (at least partially)
Code: cx2388x dvb driver version 0.0.4 loaded cx88[0]: subsystem: 0070:9002, board: Hauppauge Nova-T DVB-T [card=18,autodetected] cx88[0]: hauppauge eeprom: model=90002, tuner=76 cx88[0]: registered IR remote control cx88[0]/2: found at 0000:00:09.2, rev: 5, irq: 11, latency: 64, mmio: 0xed000000 cx88[0]/2: cx2388x based dvb card DVB: registering new adapter (cx88[0]). cx2388x v4l2 driver version 0.0.4 loaded cx88[0]/0: found at 0000:00:09.0, rev: 5, irq: 11, latency: 64, mmio: 0xec000000 cx88[0]/0: registered device video0 [v4l2] cx88[0]/0: registered device vbi0 cx2388x blackbird driver version 0.0.4 loaded
I expected the /dev/dvb/adapter0/ to be setup - but it isnt ... Moving on, When trying to create a channels.conf it fails - Code: root@mythtv:~# dvbscan /usr/local/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-WinterHill -vv scanning /usr/local/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-WinterHill using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' initial transponder 754166670 0 3 9 1 0 0 0 >>> tune to: 754166670:INVERSION_AUTO:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_3_4:FEC_AUTO:QAM_16:TRANSMISSION_MODE_2K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x01 >>> tuning status == 0x1f WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0011 WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0000 WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0010 dumping lists (0 services) Done.
Should this build work with this card ? If not I will prob manually build / install, however if there's an easy tweak / fix I would love to hear about it.
The other threads i have found seem to point to older versions, and i believe that this is at least partially working.
If you have any ideas on how to make this work - please let me know ...
Thanks,
Antony

That's a DVB card right? One of the other forum members (nigelpearson) has a few older DVB cards and has had problems using the new KnoppMyth kernel (2.6.11.7 with v4l2 patches). It might be worth truing the unpatched vanilla kernel from kernel.org or maybe an older kernel.

Hi tekdiver,
I've just bought myself a Pundit-R and hauppauge nova-t with the conexant chipset, and I've also got the blackbird module showing up.
I'm hoping that you've got your card working now as it's 2 weeks since you posted your question .... ?
I can't get scan to pick up any signal at all. I've got a working freeview box so I'm concerned that my nova-t can't pick up anything.
How do you get on?
Cheers
Andrew

Hi rscott,
I couldn't get a signal at all from my card, so I started to get paranoid about the signal strength in my area.
In the end I installed Windows XP on my pundit-r, put in the drivers disc that came with the card, got the Hauppauge TV thing running and it found ALL the channels. Hmmm, so it works in Windows.
I copied out all the channel frequencies from the setup page, made lots of notes, then trashed Windows and reinstalled Libranet 3.0 (debian based).
Then a strange thing happened. The card worked! I didn't need all those frequency notes after all. I re scanned the channels using uk-Mendip and it just worked.
I suspect that the Windows driver initialised the card somehow. Am I the only one to have had this experience ... or was it a coincidence?
My MythTV box has been fully operational for the last two weeks, and today I got the DVD playback working using xine.
I'm a happy bunny now.
Cheers
Andrew

I'm having exactly the same problems with Nova-T 90002 and KnoppMyth R15A1. As a relative Linux newbie I'm stuck as to how to proceed. I know the signal is good as the card works under Windows.

I'm having exactly the same problem still - getting the filter timeouts when scanning.
From what I've seen on various other sites, this problem may only occur with the more recent (2.6.11) kernels.
Could people who have these cards confirm the kernel version, dates of any cvs snapshots used (v4l & dvb) and whether the card gives this timeout error?

I did finally get it working using the latest 2.6.11.11 kernel patched with the appropriate video4linux patches. Follow the guides on http://www.helkit.com/cgi-bin/twiki/bin ... exantNotes to get going. I am however running this on fedora now, but the kernel build should get you going.

Yes, I found the same page as tekdiver.
I'm using kernel 2.6.11.2 and the patches from http://dl.bytesex.org/patches/2.6.11-2/
On a related note: Any of you guys managed to get mythtv to tune in to a DVB radio station?
Cheers

Hi all,
I just wanted to quiz you on this problem as I think I might be suffering the same!
I have the nova-t 90002 model running in a mini-itx box, but I'm having major issues getting it working. I've tried R5A16 (the latest release?), and I can find and configure my card, however when I try to scan for channels I get a very low signal level, i.e. ~20%, but what I find really strange is everything I do to try to improve the signal level actually reduces it ?!?! For example pulling out the ariel sends this to ~30%.
I have two freeview boxes which both work off this ariel and show about 70-80% signal level, and I have upgraded all the cable to CT125 coax with high quality connectors.
Now the thing that is interesting is I get the exact response as shown by tekdiver above. My question is is there a problem with the kernel that causes this strange output? And therefore are there particular versions that are known to work / not work? My current version is 2.6.11.9-chw (no idea what the chw is for ). Also, when I run scan with the incorrect transmitter information (I am closest to Crystal Palace) it scans successfully with no warnings and just can't find any channels.
Any help / ideas greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy

With the signal quality I have found that with my Vision Plus (Twinhan) DVB-T card when I installed XP on my TV box I was getting around 70% signal strength. When I installed KnoppMyth on the exact same hardware it drops to 30%.
What I put it down too is the driver, obviously with the company only supporting Windows (in my case), the driver for linux is more a lot of guess work by some great people.
Just my take.

Yes I have found the same. It must be something to do with the new rev5 cards.
If you use tzap you get signal locked "FE has lock" but the only thing that looks correct is the signal level, all the others are at 000000 or FFFFFF. It could be the firmware for this card is incorrect. Where is it on Knoppmyth? anyone know?
On my FC3 MythTV box it is in /usr/src/modules/ I think.
Cheers
D.

So did any of you get KnoppMyth to work in the UK with a Haup nova-t 90002 pci card?
I ran the latest knoppmyth and it all installed OK. When I try to scan for channels in KnoppMyth I just get no channels found. I ran 'dvbscan uk-CrystalPalace' from xterm I just get Error : Initial tuning failed. My local transmitter is actually WhitehawkHill but there is no uk-WhitehawkHill file in dvb\dvb-t so I copied the CrystalPalace one and changed 505933333 to 1122000000 but still no joy. I then tried dvbscan uk-Angus and THAT DID pick up a lot of channel names. I googled for a whitehawk file and found one someone had knocked up so I'll try that.
I ran latest KnoppMyth Installer. Is there something else that needs to be done? I did notice that if I do lspci I get
000:00:0d.0 Multimedia video controller : Conexant Winfast TV2000 XP (rev 05)
000:00:0d.2 Multimedia controller : Conexant : Unknown Device 8802 (rev 05)
000:00:0d.4 Multimedia controller : Conexant : Unknown Device 8804 (rev 05)
I don't know too much about linux (dabbled with freebsd a bit) though have coded under 8086/dos/windows for 20 years. Any help to save me from having to just go buy a Humax 9200T and live without DVI/VGA/LAN/XBOX connectivity greatly appreciated.
Cheers John John

It's been working in knoppmyth for a while Try following this guide:
http://www.mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewto ... highlight=
Its for a slightly older version but its still relevant. It might be worth downloading r5a22 instead as scanning for channels is a bit easier.
lspci on my machine still says things are unknown but it still works 100% including the remote.
