Hi,

I successfully installed a backend with KM-R5A15.1 with HD3000 card. I can record and watch the HD stuff. Now, I'm using the same CD to boot a frontend on a XP2800+ box. The frontend boots okay from the CD and I can connect to the backend. But seems like the connection is at 10mbit or even slower :( Its a wired connection. I tried to watch a recorded show and it was very very slow, lots of buffering. I stopped watching the show, and then sftp to the backend to get a few mb file. My speed is only 350-380 Kbytes/sec. On the same box, when I run Windows and sftp to the backend, I'm getting 7-8 Mbytes/sec. My only theory is that somehow the connection is at 10mbit or even lower when booting from the Knoppix Myth CD frontend.

Anyone faced any similar issues ?

Thanks in advance !
Mudit

If you are having issues w/ Knoppix Myth, perhaps you should address this on the Knoppix Myth forum and not here in KnoppMyth -> Installation.

i've posted it under hardware, but if the frontend is not initializing the ethernet driver correctly at 100mbps, then IMHO its an installation issue.

cecil,

I'm sorry to say, but you are coming too strong with words like "no one can help you". You are site admin, but that doesn't give the right to be an ***hole. All I was asking that if anyone else has experienced anything like this before where the download speed is very low when running from frontend CD.

Atleast, you can ask me what more information is required. I did mention that I'm able to use the same box at 7-8 Mbyte/sec transfer speed.

I'll post the ifconfig eth0 output from the box as soon as I start the frontend again on it.

More info .. booted from R5A10. Its running 2.6.9 kernel and myth protocol 14. So, I can connect to the backend (mythtv 0.18, protocol 15). But I can't see any recordings etc. I keep getting front 14/backend 15 error message.

BUT, the sftp downloads at 8Mbytes/sec !!! So, I think its the kernel/driver issue going into the R5A15.1 for the nForce2 ethernet chipset. I'm surprised no one has reported yet.

Without details, no one can help you (period). Since I'm an ***hole, why don't I just stop developing KnoppMyth. I'm sure my girlfriend would appreciate spending addtional time with me. I could read more in my spare time, attend school, etc.

Actually you're dead wrong. First I hardly think he's being a jerk, he's exhibiting strained paitence and being blunt perhaps, but that is not being a jerk. Second, being the admin gives Cecil not only the right but the responsibility to say what is appropriate where on the forums and enforce it. He's usually pretty polite about it too, unless people either can't seem to take a hint or do something fairly obnoxious. Being vehement is usually reserved for people who don't seem to take a clue from anything less, and I've never seen him resort to calling someone rude names or the use of "strong language".
