Is there any support or plans for support for the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2 in KnoppMyth?

There is work going on developing a driver at http://www.isely.net/pvrusb2.html.

Thanks,

Phil

Currently there are no plans to include support for this device. From looking at the site, the sticking point would be would be using the device w/ MythTV. So, if the device were to work with MythTV, I wouldn't be opposed to include support for it in KnoppMyth. If you want support, you'll have to keep us (me) abreast of the driver's progress.

I have been in contact with the author of the driver. MythTV support is in the pipeline, but not done yet. I'll keep you up to date with the driver's progress.

Cool. I have one of those on the shelf from back when I blindly started putting together a knoppmyth box w/o researching hardware requirements. :)

Hi, I am the current author of the pvrusb2 driver, which is used to operate the USB connected Hauppauage WinTV-PVR USB2 tuner from within Linux. Last May this question was posted about whether or not this driver works well in MythTV. I stated at the time to psross that it was pretty unstable.

Things are much better now. I know a number of people using this driver in MythTV, and it is stable there. The driver still doesn't support VBI or the FM radio, but neither are required for MythTV to operate correctly. To use this driver in MythTV, configure MythTV as if it were talking to a PVR-250 and make sure VBI is disabled. Then it should work.

The driver home page is http://www.isely.net/pvrusb2.html. You should be able to find everything you need to know there.

It is of course up to the KnoppMyth folks to decide if they want to include it; I don't know if the demand still exists to include it, but if there is interest it could probably be usefully pulled in now.

I had purchased one of these PVRUSB2 a long time ago to use on a windows pc for a project demo and after the project was over, I stashed it on a shelf and forgot about it. When I heard about these drivers recently I decided to try it out. Wow! it works pretty well. It's on an aerial connection to get analog OTA. Needless to say, it rarely gets exercised unless I intentionally choose to watch TV on it, but it does seem to be as clear as aerial attached to a PVR250. And the driver was painless to install.

Glad to hear you got it working. So nice to hear about a painless install. BTW, I see you list yourself as being in Chicago. You're in my area. PM me if you want to compare notes :-)
