Hi,

I am in the process of getting the information together to build a mythtv box and have a few questions that i have not been able to find answers to:

1. Am I right in thinking that with a pvr 350 card you can be recording and playing something else back using the same card by using its tv out function i.e. can you set the output of that card to be the output for everything rather than use tv out on gfx card?

2. if the answer to question 1 is yes then does the mythtv frontend get displayed through the tvout or is it just the media you are playing back (can the mythtv frontend be made to come out over the tv out?).

3. If using tvout on your graphics card does it just display what is currently showing on your monitor or can you set it up to display whats on desktop 2 (i.e. if you are using multiple desktops like in kde)

Think thats about it, thanks as always for any help

it can be used to show tvout. but it will not allow you to watch livetv and record a different show at the same time.

knoppmyth does not have kde installed. and no i've never heard of anyone being able to do this kind of thing using a pvr350 and monitor.

Thanks for answering the questions, I received my pvr250 card today and should get the 350 tomorrow, just going to trash my PC now and install knoppmyth. Shame the remote control cable for the card is so short, Im hoping I can extend it using a standard 3.5 to mini jack converter, has anyone done this? surely I cant be the only person who has their PC in another room away from their TV?

for broadcasting to a tv in a different room you may want to look at www.avcast.com. Haven't done it myself, but am considering it.

I just moved my mythbox to the closet in the room behind my TV so I used a 3.5mm to mini jack converter. Just be sure to use the "stereo" versus "phone" jack converters and extenstions. I had an old 3.5mm extension, but it was only one channel (phone jack) and it did not work. Once I figured out what was wrong, I got the stereo version of the extension and it worked fine.
