I have been scraping the forum for a solution to this one for a couple of days, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this (on the latest release of KnoppMyth) and might know where to point me:
I have a setup with two Hauppauge Win-TV cards (bt878). I have managed to get them both configured properly (I think). When I watch TV with TVTime, the sound is perfect, and the picture has a very nice filter on it.
However, when I watch the same channel on the same card under MythTV, the sound is very hissy - filled with static and noise.
My second tuner - again has perfect sound in TVTime, but none in Myth. Perhaps I have messed up my Myth settings? The video also skips, but I think that is because my rig is underpowered (1.6GHz, 512MB RAM)
I have taken all the encoding of audio to uncompressed on both tuners - and the problem still persists. That helped tremendously, but it is still there.

I wonder if my sound card is just cheap or something :)
Can anyone point me to a starting place? I hope I have given enough information.
Thank you very much in advance,
-Nick

if you have two tvcards that require audio patch cables like the ones you described then you have to have two sound cards. That is unless you are using btaudio. In which case you really should have specified, as that is an unusual configuration, because very few people have the cards that support it.

I am muting (or disabling, rather) capture for the input that is connected to my second tuner card -- and it has this awful hiss when I watch tv on the first tuner card, which has the proper input set to capture. I am not using btaudio.

So, I have tried removing the second tuner card just to see what happens - and there is now no sound with mythtv - the proper port on the soundcard is set to capture, and in TVTime, I still get excellent sound.

Thank you for the quick reply, and please let me know if I am doing something (undoubtedly) stupid.

Does TVTime have waaaay better sound processing than Myth? Or is it just that since it is all live - no encoding of the audio - that it sounds more "crisp"?

OK. I have sound again. I am just extremely stupid and *had* set the wrong input as capture. Also, I should probably just suck it up and buy a good tuner card. Does anyone know if the PVR-150 works with KnoppMyth or with the IVTV drivers? I assume the sound quality would be better as it stays digital until output from the card.
Any ideas?

I'll bet that if you search the forum for "PVR 150" you'll get lots of hits. Better still limit your search to the Tier 1 and Tier 2 topics to see if people have reported success with it.

Search first, ask FAQ (and yes, this is one) later if at all.
