well, I just made the upgrade from R4V5 to R5A16...I'd rate it a 'tier 2' project. several hours and much forum/wiki time.

One frustrating think is the old broken wili links in the forum. kind of a pain to hunt down the a solution in the forum that refers to a wiki document. Only to have the link broken adnb require a wiki search. Not usually a big deal, but when you in for a multi-hour session, it can wear on you.

Any good suggestions out there?

I see the old address has a redirect, can we register the old name somewhere and have it resolve to the new IP?

I assume the new location is a dynamic IP...maybe I can do a local 'hosts' mapping to resolve the old name to new.

just wondering, I have learned to appreiciate the wiki, lots of great stuff in there.

the problem is that the old address was a dynamic IP and the new one is a registered domain name with static host. Since I don't own the old address all I can do is point it to an IP and it won't work on the host since the domain name is unknow on the virtual host configuration and I have no control over that. Sounds rather confusing, but if you know much about web hosting should be pretty simple to understand.

Probably better to fix it in on this site, but I bet Cesman would rather spend his time doing other things than database work. ;)

knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org looks suspiciously like a dyndns domain. Would mapping knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org to the static IP of the new server work?

Of course if you have other stuff on the old server, this would move the inconvience to you...not my intent.

It is a dyndns address, and yes I can map it to any ip I want, but the problem is that If I just point it to the ip of the new server it won't know what to do, because the new server doesn't know anything about knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org and I can't change that part of it. It's a hosted account, I don't have control of the whole box anymore.

Something or someone is making a mess of the wiki, by the way... everything's showing up as "I am no spambot" and the original document is gone.

OK I've fixed the damage, but I'm going to leave it in the somewhat obfuscated state it's in now till I can get an auth system in place.

It's not you it's just annoying that people have to go an vandalize everything. I'm going to implement a basic auth system where you just have to have a user/pass and login in order to change or create pages. I didn't initially because I was afraid some people wouldn't bother posting their content if it was extra work, but I think we'll be ok with a basic auth system just enough to eliminate script bots, at least current script bots, and I'm hoping the spammers don't want to take time to write a separate script bot for every site.

Which link are you referring to? If you are talking about MythNews, why not just update the XML file?!
