After upgrading from R4V5 to R5A16 I noticed a large increase in cpu usage watching live tv. With the kerneldeint and quickdnr filters my cpu usage went from about 30% in R4V5 to 60% in R5A16 when using libmpeg2 (and a bit more when not using it). According to hdparm I have dma enabled for the drive.

It appears mythfrontend is the only thing hitting the cpu hard. I don't notice any change when using mplayer or xine to watch videos. Is this normal? Anyone else notice anything or could there be something wrong with my setup?

Thanks!
rich

I've noticed the newer versions of lircd seem to be using more CPU time for some reason... This may or may not be related.

Did you remember to install the nvidia drivers?

Yes, I installed the 6629 version of the nvidia drivers. I didn't install 7174 because I had some trouble with those on my desktop, though they could be fine on the myth box. Maybe I'll give those a shot.

lircd doesn't seem to be using much cpu time. mythfrontend is using a lot of cpu. Top show it as the main user followed by either XFree86 or mythbackend. Actually I see lirc_dev is next. Hmmm.

Thanks for the ideas so far!
