To anyone else running a frontend: if you browse to your mythvideo in the frontend's box, are you able to see all the /myth/video contents ON THE BACKEND SERVER? I can see all the titles and descriptions just fine, but I cannot play them on the frontend box. Is this normal?

It is normal. You need to set up filesharing (NFS or Samba) between the two boxes in order to play them.
