Hi all,
I have 2 pc with knoppmyth R5A12. One of them have a PVR500, the other Hauppauge Nova-T DVB-T.
In both i have nvidia mx 440, about 1ghz cpu, 512mb ram, hd 160gb.
In both sometimes i got "framerate loss" in livetv and recorded programs for some seconds... i tried different nvidia drivers, recompiling everytime myth from source in /usr/src/mythtv, everytime with same results...
I tried using XvMC... image was incredible smooth, but i got random freeze for "prebuffering pause". Same things for different hardware with same Knoppmyth version.
Now i am using Bob2xframerate in both... image is perfect, but like before i explained, i got random "skipping image" for unknown reasons.
In both, CPU usage was less than 50% and i tried to run mythfrontend with different "nice" levels.
I suppose it's a mythtv problem (i hope!). I would like to try mythtv 0.18.1 (deb version in R5A16). What do i have to do? Do i install those packages by dpkg -i *.deb? And MySQL database? Do i lose my recorded programs?
I don't want to upgrade all distro cause both of them have lirc configured, LCD display configured and many package recompiled ad-hoc (mplayer, transcode, nuvexport... ecc)

If you could somehow get the .debs out of the compressed filesystem inside the iso you could probably install them on A12, however there is no online repository for simple apt-get upgrades in the R5Alpha versions.

I've done this before... to ge the debs I booted of the CD on another PC and sftp'd them to my mythbox.

Running mythtv-setup I believe should upgrade the mythconverg database.

It would probably help if you described what hardware you have...

esp. your motherboard

One is Intel (unnamed) + P3 933, the other Athlon 1100 + ECS K7S5A.
I don't understand why should this be important? i ask for mythconverg MySQL update...

Well, with the ECS board, it sounds like you are hoping that a .deb upgrade will solve the problem. But from where I sit, it may or may not help.

The reason I asked which motherboard/chipset is because the K7S5A is not known for its stability.
http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2001nov/bch20011129009082.htm

http://www.hardwaremaniac.com/reviews/k7s5a/k7s5apage3.htm
Excerpt:
"Browsing to ECS's website I found 2 things. First, that there was a BIOS upgrade that solved memory compatibility problems, and second, that many users were unhappy with this board citing instability"

So you might want to consider checking which RAM you have in the ECS board, and how compatible it is, (not just specifications) and make sure you're running it at stock speed for your CPU.
