This motherboard looks ideal for the HTPC I am going to build, but I have a few questions for anybody who has had one.

How is the s-video out?
In the bios, is there an option to change the multiplier for the CPU (so I can use an athlon-m)
Would you recommend it?

Thanks,
Mike

Well a search for 7NIF4 turns up 9 posts aside from this one. One ranked as Tier 1 Recommended Hardware, one guy who got a SATA drive and had no end of trouble (don't do that...). Another guy had issues with the built in NIC (However the NIC on my new Nforce3 MoBo works flaewlessly...) and tossed in a cheap ($15) card to get around it.

I'd start by replying to the Tier 1 thread with your questions if I was you...

Sorry, that post didn't seem very relevant to the question I had. It's not really a matter of hardware compatability and ease, it's more a matter of quality, and whether or not there's a bios option for vcc and multiplier on the processor.

I think you missed my point, you asked:

and apparently at least one person had.

As for the embedded MX4 video in the Nforce2 IGP chipset... With some tweaking you cn get it to "passable" but that's about it. The only difference beyond the chipset for that particular MoBo is going to be the discrete components, and for that you should look to what people have to say about the older 7NIF2.

On the BIOS, perhaps a search of the web? I'd start with the makers website, which often has links to reviews, which often include screen shots of the BIOS...

I wouldn't recommend any overclocking on an htpc.

I'm not interested in overclocking. I am interested in using a mobile processor because they generate less heat and use less electricity, but you can't use them unless you have control over the multiplier or they run at ~800mhz
