Sorry it took so long, but we now have debs of 0.13! The only ones unavailable at the moment are xvmc and mythbrowser. Please stop the backend first(/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop) and start it again once the install is complete. If you have mythdvd-lirc remove it, the others will removed before 0.13 is installed. If you have a xvmc deb of 0.12 installed remove it before installing one of the 0.13 debs of wait for the 0.13 xvmc debs. You should backup first before installing. Settings->MythBackup or as root mythbackup. You don't need to restore once the install is complete.
Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add
deb ftp://ftp.rdt1.org/From/KnoppMyth/r4/updates ./
Then apt-get update
apt-get install mythtv-i686 mythnews mythblahblahblah
i586:
mythdvd-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb mythtv-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythgallery-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb mythtv-i586-lirc_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythgame-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb mythvideo-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythmusic-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb mythweather-i586_0.13-1_i386.deb
i686:
mythdvd-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb mythtv-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythgallery-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb mythtv-i686-lirc_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythgame-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb mythvideo-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb
mythmusic-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb mythweather-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb
noarch:
mythnews_0.13-1_i386.deb mythweb_0.13-1_i386.deb
Don't forget to restart the backend after installing. After installing you'll notice some of the menu options are gone(KnoppMyth related that we put in, Motion, MPEG-4 CD, etc.) I'll add then back shortly.

Eek! It seems as though I missed something here...
I don't have xvmc or mythdvd-lirc (I don't think - I didn't install them and a dpkg --remove mythdvd-lirc said that it didn't exist)
I ran the following command:
root@mythtv:/home/mythtv# apt-get install mythtv-i686 mythnews mythdvd-i686 mythgallery-i686 mythtv-i686-lirc mythgame-i686 mythvideo-i686 mythmusic-i686 mythweather-i686 mythweb
and I saw this at the end of the output (I don't know how to go back and see the rest of the output in the xterm... )
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/mythtv-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I then ran the command again hoping to see some more output and I got this:
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/mythtv-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/mythbackend', which is also in package mythtv-i686-lirc
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/mythtv-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Now mythbackend won't start. I'm not sure what to do next. If you can help that's great - otherwise how do I restore the backup which I made before starting as you instructed...
Sorry, I'm a complete noob... linux is still new to me but I'm trying to learn

Ok, I tried doing dpkg --remove mythtv-i686-lirc and then doing the apt-get install of mythtv-i686 and that worked. Now of course I can't do the apt-get install of mythtv-i686-lirc for the same error (trying to overwrite /usr/bin/mythbackend)
It does seem however that mythtv will start up ok. My remote control won't work though - obviously because the lirc package above is not installed.
Should I rename the mythbackend file to something else and let the lirc package write a new one? Will that work? I don't want to mess too much with a file which seems pretty important...

Tried to install the packages, but got an error. What I did was:
1. stop backend
2. following to add packages:
Code: # apt-get install mythtv-i686 mythnews mythdvd-i686 mythgallery-i686 mythtv-i686-lirc mythgame-i686 mythvideo-i686 mythmusic-i686 mythweather-i686 mythweb
During install of mythtv-i686 I got the following error: Code: Need to get 0B/11.9MB of archives. After unpacking 31.6MB will be used. E: /var/cache/apt/archives/mythtv-i686_0.13-1_i386.deb not a valid DEB package. (Reading database ... 43271 files and directories currently installed.) Ok, I think I've worked out a couple of things which I'll post here for the sake of other complete newbies...
- If you used the command 'install-i686-l' during your install, then you do have the mythdvd-i686-lirc package installed, so remove it first as instructed (install-i686-l is a script in /usr/bin/local)
- I don't think you need to install mythtv-i686 AND mythtv-i686-lirc, just one or the other depending on whether you want remote functionality. That's why I was getting the clash in my post above. I uninstalled the packages listed and reinstalled other than the mythtv-i686 package and it _seems_ to work ok
freddyman - I probably know less about this than you but I would guess that your problem is that you didn't remove an xmvc package before trying to install the 0.13 packages. There are some other install scripts in /usr/local/bin such as install-i686-lx which install the xvmc package - maybe you ran one of those during your original install without realising what it does?

First, MiMo, thanks for the tips. My confusion was with your post regarding possible scripts I ran. I didn't (knonwingly) run those scripts.
On the startup script for install you can specify i586 or i686, then the submenu asks if you are using an ir remote and xvmc. I am guessing that the script 'install-i686-lx'gets run. Perhaps this might be of some use for those of us who use the automatic install. I removed the lirc anx xvmc stuff, the installed the 1.3 stuff:
root@mythtv:~ # /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop root@mythtv:~ # apt-get remove mythdvd-i686-l root@mythtv:~ # apt-get remove mythtv-i686-lirc-xvmc root@mythtv:~ # apt-get install mythnews mythdvd-i686 mythgallery-i686 mythtv-i686-lirc mythgame-i686 mythvideo-i686 mythmusic-i686 mythweather-i686 mythweb root@mythtv:~ # /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start
However now I get the following error after restarting:
Starting MythTV server: mythbackendQSettings: error creating /root/.qt
.

freddyman, I get that error too. I did a search and according to this page http://www.geocities.com/dlou99/mythtv.html it is benign. It doesn't seem to be affecting the setup actually working. I suspect it has been there all along and I just didn't know it...

Anyone else having a problem with mythfilldatabse not running nightly with this release?
I have in my /etc/cron.daily a file called mythtv-backend that contains:
Quote: #!/bin/sh
su mythtv -c "mythfilldatabase --quiet"
Shows aren't getting populated.... you can see it when you look into the future and as well under the myth status button in te GUI. Anyone else?
