I am thinking about buying a system off of craigslist to use for my mythbox.

Gigabyte GA7-DXR Motherboard with RAID
AMD Athlon 2400+ CPU
1 GB RAM Geil
40GB HDD Western Digital
GeForce5200 128MB AGP Video
and can have two more 160GB Maxtor HDDs installed.

Would this be a good system for it? I have zero experience with other OS's and was wondering if this setup would be ok. Is there anything I should look out for? Finally, will the myth install be with 3 hdd setup with raid? Will there be any problems with this? Does it even support RAID?

That should do SDTV just fine (However, please check the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Hardware Recommendations for a success story with that MoBo). It may not work for HDTV since the current CPU recommnedation is a 3Ghz Intel or equivalent (and encoding/decoding video is one of the places where Intel's Hyperthreading support pays off...) Oh and using multiple drives with LVM works quite nicely. No personal experience with setting up hardware RAID yet...
