.left shift key broken.

for two days now i have been trying to get the plextors to work. i've been emailing mythtv-users for help, but it looks like i am on my own now.

they plain don't work in knoppmyth. i can use the plextor 'gorecord' utility and capture tv. but when i try to schedule recordings, it records the same channel that gorecord last set. i gorecorded comedycentral, told it to record buffy on fx, and got comedy central.

also, i was getting errors that it could not find the firmware on bootup. i copied the .bin everywhere and eventually it went awat, but problems remain.
UPDATE: No, i stil get the errors:
Quote:
eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
Warning: /proc/ide/hd?/settings interface is obsolete, and will be removed soon!
go7007: unable to load firmware from file "go7007fw.bin"
usbcore: registered new driver go7007

but other than that, thr quality and cpu usage 9or lack thereof0 is incedible, plus the output is already mpeg4. once we get these plextors working, they should be the defacto standard for mythboxen.

It took me a while to get my Plextor TV402U to work in KnoppMyth. Make sure you set the recording profiles in the frontend so that the tuner is the default input. The other things I had to play with were the input types for my cable-tv and sound settings. I think the default sound config is /dev/pcm/. The gorecord app should display the correct config for the sound input on the device. Mine was /dev/pcm1. Make sure that you stop the mythbackend when making changes to the mythtv-setup and then restart it when done. I was trying to make changes without stopping it and nothing was happening.

I have the same firmware problem with mine on startup. I haven't figured out how to fix it yet, but I read something on the DivX forums where it has something to do with the USB module loading before the firmware is loaded. I'm still a linux noob, so I'm not quite sure how to alter the order of modules loading at startup.

Edit: I did a fresh install with R5A16 last night and have the same problem with the firmware loading at startup. If I run gorecord before trying anything in myth, it seems to config the plextor. If I don't run gorecord before, myth just shows a black screen.

Played around with the system some more tonight and started getting the same problem with myth recording the wrong channel. It's a temporary fix, but restarting the mythbackend seems to fix the wrong channel issue. After I restarted the backend, it records on the correct channel and the live tv works without errors.

Code:
/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop
/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend start

It looks like the backend is loading before the hotplug. I think I might try altering the rc scripts to change the order.

I just got mine to work from boot.

KnoppMyth Maintainer: take note!!!
Change the order of the startup scripts so that mythtvbackend comes AFTER the usb stuff. This distro was made wih the assumption of PCI cards, not USB encoders. We've got to fix that.

I also applied a patch to the hotplug script for the wis hot plug stuff. Put a '*' in front of the address. some people reported theirs being 0 padded on the left. the * will fix that.

While changing the boot order to allow usb capture devices to work would be a nice feature, I don't think three explanation marks was called for. Remember you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Up until VERY recently the assumption of pci tv cards was a given since there were no as in not one driver for a usb encoder. those drivers were very recently released. and even more recently as in probably less than a month (after the last release of knoppmyth) made to work with mythtv.

Um you're reading way to much in my copious use of punctuation. It's important, that's all I intened to indicate. I am aware of the recent integration of the support, and I am thankfull for it. I was more excited over finally getting it to work.
