I am thinking about using a wireless keyboard instead of a remote. Has anyone tried this? If so which brands have worked well? What tips and trick work. I was looking at the Logitech diNovo Cordless Desktop, it look preatty nice, and I could get away with using the just the keyboard most of the time.

I have a BTC 5113RF and an Acer WIL-172U. Both work w/o issue. The receiver plugs into the PS/2 and that is that...

I have a remote but I also have a LITEON AIRBOARD WIRELESS KEYBOARD/JOYSTICK MOUSE.

There is a mouse joystick built into the keyboard. If you use hotkeys you can program the extra buttons to open other applications. I've never had problems with it. One thing to note is that it is IR so line of sight is manditory (or you can use a complex configuration of mirrors ). :D

The diNovo is Bluetooth, which doesn't suffer from line of sight. Anyone try bluetooth on R5A16?

Just watch out for the "USB booting" problem. Several of us have found that our systems will not boot without a PS/2 keyboard and/or mouse attached. Several of the wireless ones are USB only. I use the LiteOn one which has PS/2 connectors and works like a dream. Search on "blinky keyboard" and see the posts.

yeah they dissapeared several months ago. sucks too, as they were perfect and cheap. I was going to get one for my second box, but they were gone by then.

A search of Google shows the Acer I have to be available from several vendors.

I've got one of these IR combo keyboards with a pointing device that's very nice and has a good range:

If you don't mind the stupid multimedia buttons this one is actually cheaper:

Before that I had a Micro Innovations RF keyboad. It's range often sucked (down to 3-4 feet) possibly due to the amount of interference in my neighborhood.

19.99 is not bad it's getting close to the 15 that the liteon was.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and saw this:
http://www.gyration.com/go24airsuite.htm

The keyboard was nice and small, and the idea of the air mouse is cool, if it works... Has anyone tried it?

I wish someone would make an IR thumbboard instead of a full sized keyboard. I don't want a full keyboard for the tv, a small thumbboard would be ideal. Anybody seen anything?

Actually, I also wish MythTV integrated an on-screen keyboard for all text entry. I've looked around at some linux on-screen keyboards like gtkeyboard but nothing seems workable.

Yeah folks say it works, but it's VERY pricey and not all that reliable. Frankly my take is that it's priced as an executive toy for presentations. Having handled and inspected both that and the much cheaper one I bought I'd say the price is unwarranted.
