First,

Great product and efforts to wrap up MythTV - thanks for it.

I am new.... will admit ... and stupid (-;

I installed without ANY issues at all on 2 different PC's, only common component was a PVR250 that works fine, and I have several to swap around. Machine 1 had an Intel Video card - other has an NvidiaGforce.

On both systems after install and boot (again goes perfect) but after the boot I get nothing other than a blinking cursor in the upper left... I even thought some processes may be running so gave it time - no go. I as well tried the Ctrl-Alt-F1 with no response at all.

Again - very new to this one but have done a TON of work with all the other non-Linux PVR's but realized I could not avoid all the goodness in MythTV so am determined to get this running.

Again - thanks and any advice is appreciate. :?:

Well, I've tried to change everything possible - hard-drives, several flavors of Video Cards (excluding ATI) and some with no TV-out, and even reverted down to a WinTV vs. the PVR-250 card.

Still only a blinking cursor in the upper left on both machines I've tested. Each time I do a fresh install which rolls just perfect....

Any advice would be appreciated.

A little more detail please... Does the blink cursor appear after X starts? Is it after rebooting and Linux starts to load? Did you do a auto or manual install?

Cesman...

Here is some data:

1) Made some progress - kinda... It was having an odd issue with the PVR250 but I did get things rolling with the WinTV card. On both machines the PVR250 would not work. The card is good, I have another, but its in an MCE box. Will Emuzed cards work?

2) Good news is I have something...

3) I clearly need my PVR250 so am going to try it again - any advice

4) I did try to get my TV Guide - no luck? When I enter the zip I don't see anything..... but connectivity to my LAN is working as I am pulling from the weather module fine

Thx again - little progress but I am persistent...

Ok,

I added the PVR250, and it (wont work) and I see it fail upon reboot as well. I assume I am missing a patch here? Or another route to add the card which I am still novice on.

The other piece a little more odd is that the XMLTV data will not download. This should have worked even with the WinTV? After I add my ZIP-CODE I never see the options from my Cable Provider like I normally see when doing an XMLTV pull.

Ideas on these 2 - thx so much.

So, with the PVR-250 all you get is a blicking screen?! What chipset do you have? Try a different PCI slot.

After enter the fifth digit on your zipcode there should be a pause, this normal. After selecting your source a longer pause is normal.

Some data.

I saw in one thread on the XMLTV data that there as a syntax error requiring another space... I can get to that point, but don't seem to have access rights to edit that file. I do indeed get the pauses as u say, but never get to a point where my provider info shows. If you could let me know on this one (if u think this is the issue), I'd love to edit that file and hope it just works.

The Emuzed card is the original MCE card much like a PVR250. I am not going to give up on the 250. I am feeling close.... So think I will chop away at that once since I know everyone has had luck with it.

But if u think the Zap.... file everyone as mentioned for editing may be my issue I'd love to change it to get the guide data cruising.

Thx for the very fast responses. I am just not Linux savvy - or was ages ago.

You don't need to edit the any file. Can you get the listings from zap2it.com(website)? Are you certain you have the latest xmltv installed? As root dpkg -l | grep xmltv
Should be 0.5.27-1

Cesman,

Are the latest updates for MythTV and possibly this xmltv update in the .ISO I just dloaded today. I noticed the thread:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... tv+upgrade

Just curious if I am missing features as well from MythTV.

Thx for your patience - sorry to be a pain. MUCH APPRECIATED ... I am getting there "slowly (-;"

Cesman,

I see many references to

apt-get update
ok
apt-get install xmltv
Only ends up with 0.5.19-2
Where can I get the newer version?

I think I am having access rights issues. I think? Again, Linux slow but I am logged in as the user I created, when I try to login as root from the login window - it won't let me there?

Is this the case or just my stupidity?

Sorry

Root cannot log in w/ GDM(unless you change the configuration). Login as mythtv then su to root. apt-get update followed by apt-get install xmltv should get the latest version(I did this yesterday). The debs that have been posted are just for MythTV and it's modules. New installs should follow this: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=250
