or would it be better just to get 2 Hauppauge 150´s ?

also, what kinda of remote system should i use? does everything work in MythTV? Should i just buy a wireless keyboard, and a smart remote, and use that whit the ir, from the keyboard?

How easy will it be to get myth up and running on this setup? all things should be supported right?

The two things I'd be concerned about are the SB Live (search on this, I seem to remember problems with one of the SB cards, but that may be old news...) and the PVR-500 which will definitely take some fiddling. 2 PVR-150s might be easier, but it sort of depends... I ran a recent poll in the hardware section that shows people having success with both...

Remote controls - the nonMCE version of the PVR cards come with a remote that works just fine. This could be counted as an advantage for the PVR-150x2 path, since all PVR-500s are MCE. I've also got a nice compact IR keyboard with pointing device that I picked up at Directron (under $30). It's very nice and a huge improvement over it's predecessor with was a big ugly Micro Innovations RF keyboard. Highly recommended!

Other things to think about... Case, PS and HSF... Get nice quite ones with at least a little room for expansion. The new box uses an Antec SLK1650 with the included SL350 PS for the first two, and a Zalman 7000 AlCu for the last one. The case fans are audible when the living room is very quiet but not annoyingly so yet.

alright tnx, so i guess i will be using 150´s then.. i need a soundcard for each tv card right?, like if i need to watch something, whti one card, and record whit another?

also, how is the image quiality whit 150´s ?

and if there is problems whit the SB live, what other sound card should i go after?

if you are using a pvr card of any sort the sound card per tvcard does not apply. that is only for software based cards.

I just purchased a PVR-500 and have spent the last 3 days trying to get it to work with no luck. I am pretty sure it can be done (Linuxgeek here has done it and has instructions) but I am finding it far from easy.

Of course, the 150 is supposedly a pain too, so who knows.

I would strongly recommend doing some more reading before your hardware arrives. It'll save you a bunch of grief and us from having to give you "RTM" or "PaSotF" answers.

Just thought that all Haupauge cards, were working on mythtv, as that is what i read on these boards/and sites...

seems a bit to me, that it can be a real pain ín the a** to get myth up and running, based upon the stuff i have read so far, and souch!... Hopefully when its running, its running for good!...

just wondering if the 150 image quality during live tv, is good enought ? becaus i would rater buy something a bit more expensive, if that means getting something that has a better image quality!

the 500 has about as many success stories as the 150's so they both do work, and I don't think there is going to be any difference in image quality from any pvr card, and unfortunately they are about the only hardware tuners available to work with linux. (I know there is a new usb card with drivers now)

Well, I'm still a newbie at this, but what I am learning is that once you get the tricks down and gain understanding of what is going on and where stuff is it gets a lot easier to do it again if you have to. You really have to start learning about MythTV, the related programs like IVTV and LIRC, and Linux in general if you don't want to be lost all the time. I think one of the secrets is keeping pretty extensive notes of both your successes and failures so you can have an idea of why things worked or get hints on why it didn't.

As for Hauppauge cards, the first one I put in my machine was the 350 and the thing was damn near plug-and-play. I chose it precisely because it was the only one that almost no-one seemed to have much problem with...well, except for the TV out which I haven't got working either. Of course, it is hard to find and expensive, but I don't regret buying it for an instant.

alright, so i guess i will be trying to get a 500 card then, simple becaus u get 2 tuners, and only use one pci but then again u dont get a remote. hmm tought call

Actually, I think I just solved my problem; the 350 and the 500 don't seem to like each other. Taking out the 350 (and playing with the module config files) finally got the 500 working great. I found references to this problem in the chat logs of the IRC group #mythtv-users on irc.freenode.net, which appears to be a very good reference source I didn't know about before tonight.

Ok, so maybe NOW I regret getting the 350.

Hmm i am a bit in, doubbt about what to get, a 500 or 2*150´s.. the good thing is u get a remote whit the 150´s, but the 500 does make it easier to wire in the back

Yeah, both tuners in the 500 are working. The 350 is out of the machine right now and I think that I may need a bugfix to IVTV before it will work with the 500.

I found the remote for the 350 (which I believe is the same one) to have very limited range and it was not much use to me. YMMV of course, the one Real World person I know using Myth loves it, but their room is much smaller than mine.

are you sure your batteries were good. I know I've tested mine at 18 to 20 feet, and heard someone else test theirs at 25+ feet before they ran out of room and in all cases worked great.
