Got a fine AverTV DVB-T 771 and it works great nowadays (after some hair-tearing weeks). The card has an S-video input as well, but I don't know how to access it.

I really would like to switch to that now and then to record a VHS-show to mp4 so I can burn a VCD for it, but it seems there are no inputs available in the inputs menu, only the DVB input. So, I tried adding a V4L-card for the S-video input only, but now it just hangs when I try to watch TV.

Is there really no way I can switch between the two inputs with the same card? Do I really have to remove the dvb-card, then install the v4l-card, record with the S-video input and then change back to watch TV!?

Yes, you can switch. You need to setup a "dummy" channel for the svideo. A search on the MythTV archive will tell you all you need to know.

Thanks. Do you mean mythtv.org (then what?) or these forums?

There is a mythtv-dev and a mythtv-users mailing list. A quick google will take you to the mailing list archives. The archives at gossamer-threads are searchable.

Yeah, found them myself, sorry :) Here's a good URL:

Problem is, if I add another DVB-T card in my sources list, it still doesn't have S-video. Am I supposed to add a V4L-card or some other type?

Okay, that would work well - provided my video source had an input for S-video listed in 4. Inputs, but it doesn't. So I tried, again, to create a new video source for V4L alongside the old for DVB-T, and did as described. But it hanged again, forcing a reboot and reconfiguring back to the old settings.
